Holy crap that Haruhi Vol 4 Special Edition deal is awesome. Maybe they made a mistake on it, but all the better for me! I'd never ordered from Tower Records before either, but I went ahead and pre-ordered this. Deal was too good to pass up, hopefully everything arrives safe and in good shape.

My order took forever to arrive, but I guess I can't complain for only $25 including shipping. The box was in great shape but my DVD disc had one large scratch on it and does not play flawlessly on my average-sensitivity DVD player (it can play flawlessly on my computer's DVD drive which is very good at reading less-than-perfect discs). That's Bandai's fault though, not Tower's. If I feel like it I can always use my computer to dupe the disc and make a perfect unscratched burned copy (I've used this trick tons of times).

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up about this, britannica. I'm not too impressed with Tower's website and service though, I'd probably only order from them again if another ultra good deal like this one (which might have been a mistake by them) came up.

Tower also has Welcome to the NHK, Vol.2 + Artbox: $18.03
but if you don't want to order from them:

Overstock has it 71 cents more.
Welcome to the NHK, Vol.2 w/Artbox: $18.74

A few more deals from tower:
Saint Seiya, Vol.1 + Artbox: $8.55
Steel Angel Kurumi: Complete Collection: $36.27

And for more Haruhi:
DeepDiscount has:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Vol.3 (LE): $24.04

(credit for these goes to the folks at dvdtalkforum)

Maybe if I can convince my parents I can get both of those. I'd have to sell the duplicate discs but oh well.
Sorry to hear about the problems. I've never ordered from Tower- only shopped when they ahd a B&M store.

Wow so I guess the Haruhi deal at tower.com wasn't a mistake then....I guess every now and then they do purposefully have ultra-cheap deals due to overstock. If so then tower.com is probably still a good website to look for deals on.

My mail took 1 month to came because it was shipped media mail. If I remember correctly though I had ordered as express mail. However, their website and contact (e-mail, phone) support seem very disorganized (you can't contact them at all, if you e-mail you get no intelligent response, and if you phone you can't talk to anyone) so that is what makes me worry. You don't get a proper invoice either.....neither through e-mail nor in the package.

Well, I guess if there's a next time I'll just order media mail from them since that way they can't mess anything up (hopefully).

Right now at amazon.com Princess Tutu is also $27.50 which is a much better deal since they offer free shipping. For where I live they send my stuff with free Priority Mail shipping every time which rocks.

I bought that just recently myself and am watching it at this very moment.

FYE has the individual Gankutsuou discs for either $14.95 or $18.95 on their website. (ie, some are 15 bucks, some are 19.) They were all $14.95 at the local store, whereat I picked up all but volume 2, which I ordered from the website.

A friend recently got the entire Gankutsuou set for approximately $8 a disc from a local Sam Goody (FYE-related chain store).

The price was because of the $14.95 sale price per disc as you said, plus the current "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" anime DVD sale, plus a 10% off membership card, plus a 10% going-out-of-business sale (store was going out of business).

However, we tried to bargain hunt for similar deals at Sam Goody/Suncoast stores and weren't able to get the price we wanted (so we didn't buy). The store employees told us that their "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" anime DVD sale doesn't apply to any items with sale prices...if you use that promotion you have to use the retail price. That's bullcr@p I say but oh well. Smile Guess I won't be buying anything from Suncoast this Christmas. (my membership is expiring too and I probably won't renew, Suncoast is getting more expensive lately)

I went to FYE today with a $5 of any title $14.99 or over. The employee swore up and down that the sale had ended.

It sucks because they are the only store in the area with vols 1,2 & 3. (i'll try them on another day)

I also have a Backstage Pass (which I never renewed after media Play closed, but there was a mix up and I still recived two more years) Suncoast was always expensive, and i didn't know until I started shopping at best Buy. (This was back when I paid $38 a dvd)

I'm going to try to hunt down the singles though. I'd rather have those than the box anyway.

For about half a year, basically the first half of 2007, Suncoast was consistently cheaper than Best Buy on pretty much any new release anime title. Around that time, most new releases from Suncoast from all the major anime studios were $20 a DVD on sale (plus you could tack on the 10% membership discount). While at Best Buy during the same time period, anime titles ranged from $20 to $25 (Geneon) per DVD depending on anime studio.

Suncoast sales only last for a month after release though while BB prices are generally permanent. But anyways, Suncoast has increased their prices somewhat lately, now most of their new releases are $23...and they no longer have the terrific "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" promotions and stuff like that (I got many new release Geneon titles for $10 earlier this year). Their current anime sale is just a gimmick, you don't actually save anything (if you really do have to take the promotion off the retail price vs the sale price).
