Loss, if we allow it to, will connect us. Americans, Japanese, all the other peoples have experienced loss.

Forgetting is an action, a tool if you will, best used sparingly only at dire need.

Not all new things are "good", not all old things are "bad". People like to have clear distinctions when making judgements, but those aren't usually available.

My $.02 from 60 years of life.

Great quote. He's very right about all this.

You know, given the topic of the article, I'm surprised they didn't bring up the similar comparison between Penguindrum and the 1995 sarin gas attacks.

Ikuhara: I want this anime to appeal to everyone, and even draw in people who don’t necessarily watch anime.
* Light bulb goes off*
Ikuhara: I know. Lots of repetitious anal penetration imagery

While a painfully mediocre anime director like Yamakan announces his retirement for the fifth time, Ikuhara drops these words of wisdom: "There's no future in just forgetting. I'm sure that the future coexists with loss."
