Kinda ironic for this franchise given THAT scene with Shinji and Asuka.

Well, it seems Studio Khara didn't get the memo that people have already been doing this for around 2 and a 1/2 decades, and I really don't see this being enforced. (Unless otherwise noted.)

It seems more like a cynical, mealy-mouthed plea of "PLEASE don't scare away normies from the next movie so it affects our box office and Blu-Ray sales!" Which is altogether gutless on Khara's part. This is the kind of crap the original show was railing against.

Lol what a joke. I don't even like the series but now I want to draw some really lewd S*** of it. So I can definitely see this having the reverse effect.

I'm sure they know. They put out an official video game where you can strip the characters by beating them in mahjong back in the 90s. I have a feeling this is more about politics than pornography, though. Japanese companies have been more and more clamping down on their works being used for political gain, like Animal Crossing.

Um...they do know that THEY’RE the ones that keep drawing Asuka and Rei naked and THEY’RE the ones that animated Shinji’s spunk right!?

Is this a Japan-only rule or does it happen outside Japan as well since most of the EVA Rule 34 fanart is made?

What exactly do they mean by that.

Eh, it's not as clean as that (though porn is definitely going to be the most amplified). The guidelines also try to say "no extreme violence" and "no political party affiliation"; it's Khara trying to keep their hands clean of controversy despite Evangelion being founded on controversy. It's an IP holder trying to dictate how their property is perceived and shown. And it's no coincidence they did this right before the new movie comes out. It's really just kind of gutless and weak.

I feel tempted to draw something with the aim of breaking every one of these rules in one fell swoop just to make a point. Not even like I'd really have any interest in doing any of this normally, it's just a really, really stupid thing to be asking for.

So the sci-fi robot show that is famous for co-opting religious iconography and terminology for its narrative now says it does not want its characters and ideas co-opted for religious/ political purposes. That is ironic.

I think it should be noted these are guidelines for a contest they were doing with pixiv. It's not like Khara was saying these are rules everyone has to follow under every context of drawing fanart like was made out on social media.

Khara are idiots, this has been tried with Pripara with no success and Precure, which just resulted in far more and extreme hentai, not to mention textbooks, which failed. Even Disney and Nintendo has failed miserably at this. It's best that you don't try lewd bans with fanart, it always backfires.
