I may be mistaken but this looks like the second time in as many months that some anime or game has been caught doing this specifically with fashion. The similarity between the created artwork and the allegedly copied designs are too great for a "simultaneous vision" explanation, further evidenced by the choice to change designs rather than fight (though if you want to play devil's advocate that could also be just a choice not to fight). it seems like artists facing time crunches and lacking ideas, they're latching onto real world designs they hope are of little enough renown to be readily spotted.

This. It's actually fine to take inspiration, which happens often, but to copy 90%+ of the design is usually a sign of hard times in the design process.
