Kinda curious, how much did sales improve? What premiered under his run? I recognize Komi Can't Communciate at least.

What happens when an editor-in-chief retires? Do they literally retire due to old age (he doesn't look old or tired)? Do they climb higher in the company echelon? Do they create their own smaller company? Do they get a job in bigger multimedia companies?

Conan is likely their biggest revenue now, but sales for this series has slipped very noticeably. The theatrical release is bringing in a lot of money though, and I believe Shogakukan is on the Production Committee. So overall revenue for Shogakukan likely went up even if manga sales went down. At least for Conan.

I find it kind of funny the series that ANN says that the magazine is known for but ignores the only one the guy has a solo poster of in the background

Yeah, IIRC Magi was one of the best-selling manga during its serialization time and helped to boost the own magazine's sales.
