I was fine with the show’s limited animation, which was still a big improvement over the previous adaptation, but I really didn’t care for the overly high contrast (which at times made me wonder if someone messed with my TV’s settings) and that fake parchment texture they slapped on everywhere.
Still, as a fan of the manga, I enjoyed seeing so many chapters faithfully adapted, and I’d definitely welcome a second season covering what’s left of it, although they’d have to undo that tacked-on happy ending.

I fully agree honestly! Mind you I've seen more naked men watching this show than I have in a LONG time, (eat your heart out Golden Kamuy) but it was just generally a fun ol' time to watch at a relaxed pace. Which makes it a shame that it ended up on Netflix and no doubt was subject to people trying to binge watch the whole thing.
And yesss David Wald and Kenjiro Tsuda are both so good as Lucius! They both have that gravelly yet soothing tone to their voices. Wald takes it in a slightly funnier direction (rrrrrolling his R's a lot) while Tsuda stays very low key, but they both do such a great job. Plus you still get to hear Tsuda narrating the post episode bits with Mari Yamazaki even when watching the dub!

The series was ok, but the end bits with Mari Yamazaki were just wonderful. She seems like she'd be so much fun to travel with! And I do want that weird narrow water cup with the straw handle!
