Episode 1
Reposting from what I said in the Spring 2025 Preview Guide discussion thread: I'm in love. As a Canadian, I was already primed for Anne Shirley, but wow did the first episode ever deliver on even my fondest hopes for it. The Answer Studio is absolutely crushing it. From the faithful to PEI's real landscape background art, to Anne's delightfully expressive face, to the bang on performances of all the seiyuu (especially Honoka Inoue's Anne), to the crisp writing. Bravo. Spring has truly arrived. And it's a 2-cours! Squee! |

I was originally planning on skipping over this one, but decided to give it a go. Well, looks like I’ll be staying on for the ride! I remember having a Japanese penpal that was a fan of the earlier anime adaptation, Akage no Anne and that the series was pretty popular in Japan.

This does bring me back flashbacks to childhood, this does feel like a story I would have read back in school.
I know an obvious comparison with the name, and the red hair, and the orphanage, is Annie. But for me a better comparison is Heidi, in that it will be less self contained. I am already emotional invested, I haven't read this story, so I don't know what happens. But I heard this series has time skips. I have the old man, they are going to Uncle Ben by the end of this. |

I would like to see the WW1 era (when Anne is middle aged) done (Rilla of Ingleside), when the bluster and bravado get smacked in the face by the reality of machine gun and artillery dominated trench warfare. |

I feel like I must be uncultured to know nothing about this franchise.

Geez, what an emotionally brutal anime that first episode was. I've also never read the Anne of Green Gables story, but I would ten times rather watch a zombie apocalypse in progress or some leering psycho going on a killing spree than watch some little orphan girl getting excited about her new home and finding out that there's been some kind of mix-up..
I mean, I knew it was going to work out - she's the title character, and I've heard enough about Anne of the Green Gables second hand to know it isn't some Dickensian story about an orphan suffering in a nightmare landscape of urban Victorian poverty - but it was still torture for my tender little heart, watching this bubbling girl headed for some stern faced stick of an emotionally repressed woman like an egg headed toward a rock. Fortunately, Anne didn't try to do the stiff upper lip thing. When she dramatically started wailing about despair without a filter it was somehow funny and touching at the same time. Anne could be an annoying character - sometimes I wish the voice actress doing the machine gun chatter thing would stop to take a breath - but the subtitled dialogue is so charming that I don't mind. Oh yeah, and beautiful landscape. This and To Be Hero X were the last anime on my Saturday watch list and I wound up watching it Sunday morning, but Anne Shirley turned out to be some serious competition for Kowloon Generic Romance in the A rank anime department, at least to my way of thinking. |

I didn't read Anne of Green Gables until I was in university and taking a Children's Literature course. I absolutely loved it and so far this adaptation seems to be doing it a ton of justice.

Episode 2
Needless to say I was solidly in Anne's court with respect to the kerfuffle with the beastly Mrs. Lynde. What a cow. Telling a young girl that she is ugly merits a curb-stomping as far as I'm concerned. But Anne has found a bosom friend, so it's all good. Hate to sound like a McDonald's commercial, but I'm lovin' it! |

I have a feeling Anne and Diana's handshake and the window signal is going to get a callback when they do the time skip.
Next episode, looks like more new characters. |

Geez, only two episodes in, and this show keeps trying to make my hardened little Grinch heart grow a size or two.
So, Canadians had/have an anti-ginger thing too, huh? I guess as part of the British Empire? Anne is a bit extra, but I think she's the most entertaining lead of the season. It's hard to get bored when she's experiencing a new rush of emotion and expressing it somewhat hilariously every few minutes. |

I absolutely loved Marille laughing to herself when she remembered Mrs. Lynde's reaction to Anne's berating of her! Two episodes in and I can safely say that Matthew is my favorite character due to the kindness and warmth that he shows to Anne. |

I just finished the 1st episode on CR (unfortunately, I don't have CR premium to watch the 2nd), and let say I'm impressed with the artwork for this anime.

This might sound dumb, but I was paying particularly close attention to the animation on the first episode because I do that, and I stopped worrying about it when Anne entered that house that was gloomily shadowed and brightly lit at the same time, and then got served that meal that looked plain and delicious all at once. It was high quality work, and it wasn't even drawing attention to itself.
