I have to say, I don't see any way in which Mia can be considered Philia's "savior." Philia's already gotten into a great situation now, so arguably her saviors were the villains who sold her off. In fact, I think Mia's focus on wreaking terrible vengeance on the Prince and her parents (as pleasing as this is to most of us in the audience) is more likely to bring her into conflict with the gentler Philia. If she wanted Philia to be even happier Mia should instead move to Parnacorta and join her sister there, although that would certainly leave their home kingdom up the creek.

I was thinking that was a possible part of the setup all along - Mia is going to keep their home in check with her own brand of vengeance, then more or less hand over to Philia and Parnacorta essentially the hollowed out husk that is what's left after Mia's burnt it to the ground (literally or metaphorically). The alluded disparity in political power and wealth, the foretold monster invasion, as well as Mia's limited ability to stave off the onslaught (whereas Panacorta under Philia's care already has a superlative plan to keep that trouble away), makes it very easy to see the kingdom falling and being taken by the more powerful Panacorta.

Since they seemed to very quickly dash the much more common "also falls for the ploy" angle where Mia ends up falling for the Philia smear plan, the next likeliest plot was they either end up teamed up (which is the direction they're heading), or sorrowful end where Mia ends up dying and Philia is burdened by regret or turning dark-side (still a possibility).

this has the same type of set up that those "abandoned by my adventure party" anime does.

in time that country will live to regret their decision.

who here predicts that their actions will lead to the destruction of their kingdom? ME!!!!

I hope you are right Rebecca and something interesting starts happening on the Philia side of the story. Because so far its just been one of those over powered characters with an overwork ethic being made to finally have a better life.

Mia has been the saving grace of the first three episodes. Even the male interest on Philia's side has not had time to have a personality beyond being the automatic always forgiving love interest.

And I agree JR. This is 80% a gendered reversed fired from a hero party story. With the final 20% mixing in the social betrayal of a villainess story. Hopefully the reviews hints are correct and the story evolves from here.

This reminded me of the "kicked out of the party" trope as well, just on a larger, more ridiculous scale. Well, sometimes you just need something to get the story started.

I wasn't expecting Mia to start going yandere, but I'm definitely here for it Laughing

With Philia you have a fantasy romance with soothing, healing, vibes.

With Mia you have a political revenge story.

You may prefer one over the other but I think put together they make for an effective anime and really emphasizes the importance of the bond between the two sisters. A bond so powerful it would drive Mia to a revenge plot for her sisters' sake.

Though even if Mia isn't planning to destroy Girtonia itself, the fact that her parents burned up the instructions she'd need for the Great Purification Circle means that they're probably doomed anyways. It's just a matter of how much political damage Mia will cause to Julius before then.

Though a part of me is also expecting Mia to join up with the 1st prince. I would wonder if he could end up as her love interest too, but she's probably too focused on her sister.

I appreciate how much of a green flag Osvalt is. I mean, after Julius who always looked at her with disdain, sexism, and as just a means of inflating his own image, Philia has found someone who genuinely appreciates, listens to, wants to get to know her better and cares about her well being.

And in getting to know him she's slowly coming to feel things she's never felt before and desiring something for herself for the first time in her entire life.

I really like how much Philia is appreciated in her new kingdom.
I do hope her sister gets revenge on the prince.

I had been aware of this one for a bit thanks to the manga and light novel, and glad to see it get an adaptation. While Philia's story is nice (though probably predictable), I really like Mia's tale as it runs parallel to hers.

Mia is a loving, caring sibling and isn't ignorant of what are clearly red flags. And her immediate reaction to Philia being sold off actually makes a fair amount of sense and something I find personally relatable: You hurt my sister, so I'm gonna hurt you.

Yeah, so far Mia is saving the show for me. In part because the show has been so over the top in abusing Philia (We get it already the sledgehammer is not necessary). In contrast Mia's reaction and determination are more natural in their presentation (so far) which is working much better for me. Parents favoring one child over the other or a Prince/King deciding to get rid of their fiancée/wife is not new in literature or real life, but how its presented still matters. I was close to dropping it after the first episode, but now I'm curious.

that might be a bad sign. while this definitely have the reversed kicked out of a party trope, i fear that they could end up going down the tenten kakumei route and have one of them turn into not only people that do not want social status, but turn one of the two sisters into another typical man hating lesbian type!

especially in mia's case since its mainly powerful men like her sister's former fiance that are the cause of the pain and suffering that philia is going through!

I have to say that the parents' actions reach a level of extreme self-sabotaging pettiness that requires some suspension of disbelief. The evil fiancee at least has a tangible goal with his machinations (taking over the country), but the parents don't seem to gain anything from what they do besides some pointless sense of self-satisfaction.

Not when you consider what royal families - as well as people with the wealth and power needed to insulate themselves from reality in general - have done in real life. Just one example among many: https://www.historyonthenet.com/did-kaiser-wilhelm-start-world-war-1

Not necessarily concerned with the misandry thing as that isn't very common especially when it isn't being played for comedy, and also it would be hard to explain and justify because it wasn't just Julius and other guys who mistreated Philia but everyone in the Zitonia, including Mia's mother. Also, everyone in Parnacorta is nice to Philia especially the guys.

But I am very fearful that it might go the "well since it turns out we aren't sisters after all, just cousins!" type of deal. A plausible setup is already there. While we are thankfully out of the era that Oreimo started - looks like the My Sister, My Writer debacle killed it off - you still can't entirely rule it out.

Bamph! Random Ninja!

It made me laugh at the story in that a random never seen before ninja spontaneously appeared to solve the current story conundrum.

Philia finally had a bit of an interest to her story in her facing the uncomfortable questioning around her personality and life so far. The good kind of uncomfortable that asks questions of ones self and ones motivations. I hope being asked to be a teacher next episode will continue to push Philia in interesting, non worship the perfect saint, directions.

Mia absolutely will not leave her current position. I think her revenge is a higher priority for her character then her personal enjoyment. The moral question of saving a nation unwilling to defend itself doesnt even factor in comparison.

And to the discussion over the background details: Yes its very basic in its setting isnt it? Everyone dislike Philia because of the title of too perfect saint. Its more a scenario then a background.

It's nice to see things improving for Philia. She's finally finding herself personally motivated to be a Saint because of her developing feelings for Osvalt and the faith the people of Panacorta have shown her. She's discovering new hobbies. She's discovering things she likes. She's even willing to put her sisters' safety above Girtonia because Mia is just that important to her.

Osvalt is a literal walking green flag. It's no wonder that he immediately pops up into her head when she thinks of "love."

Actual antagonists outside scummy princes would definitely differentiate this from Yui Ishikawa's last Saint show.

Don't you just love it when it's a pretty standard medieval fantasy and then they introduce a ninja character?

Even the Girtonian military insults Philia and is woefully incapable at their jobs because they relied on Philia too much.

I feel like Mia is going to stay in Girtonia not only because her revenge isn't complete but also because she knows if it was Philia she would've tried to find a way to save Girtonia due to her duty as a Saint. Though it adds more incentive to take out Julius.
