Weird choice but okay I guess. Pluto was good so I'm up for more revivals of Tezuka stuff.

Let's see if Disney sends a cease-and-desist this time too. Like they did back when the -97 film was about to be shown at a festival. Which is funny, considering which came first...

Very excited for this the last thing was 2009. As a big fan, I hope it's much better than that one.

there were uncanny similarities between the white lion and the lion king that at least should have been recognized as unintentional homage by certain individual within the crew. even the director admitted that during an interview at screen junkies but electronic flies unleashed by some youtuber called adam something who ''investigated'' ''youtube videos'' who were doing comparisons (some good, some bad) ''determined'' that there is no comparisosn based on that ''investigation''. facepalm

And got the Africa connection for their afro-anime thing, which we can probably assume will be depicted less "of the times".
Now if only we could see all those old adaptations subbed.

See the thing with the 97 Jungle Emperor Leo movie is... It was rife with imagery that was suspiciously similar to The Lion King, and that imagery was not from the manga or any prior adaptation. Contrary to the far-too-popular narrative, Kimba ripped off The Lion King, not the other way around. Any comparisons that try to claim the other way around are either cherry-picked to the extreme, or they mislabel '97 content as being from the much older 1960s Jungle Emperor movie. Or they're extremely surface-level things like "Both feature a warthog", "Both have the main lion be friends with a bird and a monkey" (Note that with all those animals, the characters in Lion King have entirely different personalities than the ones in Jungle Emperor Leo) or "Both have a lion with darker fur who tries to steal the throne" which disregards that the darker-furred lion in Leo is 1: far from the only villain, 2: not even the only evil Lion Leo has to contend with, and 3: not even in the story all that much to begin with.
Disclaimer: Yes I am basically just reciting stuff from the YMS video on the matter here. It bears mention though that he went into Kimba expecting to find clear undeniable that Disney did indeed rip it off, and after watching through the entire franchise he could only conclude that, no, they are only superficially similar.
...Course, one could indeed still say that Disney was douchey for trying to sue Tezuka Productions, considering how really, I don't think you can really trademark isolated shot compositions... But those shots in the 97 movie were extremely obviously pulling from The Lion King, though... And aside from one single copyright note in a single trailer that was in all likelihood just a typo, there's nothing indicating that said 97 movie entered production until after The Lion King had already released. Heck, chances are it literally was made because of The Lion King's success, sort of a "Hey, Disney just released an obscenely successful movie about a lion prince, so surely we'll make a ton of money if we make a new movie of our own lion prince character!"

Kind of stunned people are still trying to push the stupid, "Lion King's just a giant Kimba ripoff!" conspiracy. I'll grant there were probably some visual inspirations in places and Disney was definitely lying when they claimed no one who worked on Lion King had even heard of it, but pretty much every actual narrative resemblance between them is just completely superficial stuff you'd expect out of two separate stories starring a talking lion in Africa, especially given there are nearly as many episodes of Kimba and Leo the Lion as there are minutes in Lion King so there's just an incredibly dense backlog of work that Lion King apparently wasn't even supposed to passingly resemble in any way.

Not a movie, it was two TV series, 52 episodes(1965) and 26 episodes(1966).

Care to give some examples?

Hope the remake turns out well, especially in honor of Tezuka.
