The fact that Maison Ikkoku wasn't on the list to begin with was highway robbery. If you haven't seen it before, go watch it. Then do your list again. If you haven't seen it in a long time, go watch it again anyway.
Inu-Yasha, maybe you took the context of romanticizing something vs lovey-dovey couples? That's the only way I can see you including YuYu Hakusho, Naruto and other odd choices on the list, or maybe it's just me and I should have been asleep long ago. Here is my list in order: 1. Maison Ikkoku 2. Video Girl Ai 3. Escaflowne 4. Kimagure Orange Road 5. Saikano 6. Ah My Goddess 7. KareKano 8. CardCaptor Sakura 9. Marmalade Boy 10. Fushigi Yuugi |

Hmmm, I'm not sure I can think of ten that I thought were particularly romantic, but here's my picks, in no order of preference:
Kanon Kimi ga Nozomu Eien If I See You In MY Dreams Stellvia Maburaho RahXephon (ok, not really 'til the end, but still) Wonderful Days (OK, so it's Korean, but the romantic backstory is fabulous) Evangelion (Hey there's romance in this... twisted and sad, but they can't all be Kanon.) |

Actually, Satsuki loving computers isn't too out there. spoiler[And there's at least one that loves her...to death, no less!] I'd also add Subaru & Seishirou to the list of prospective couples in the series, though that's probably more in Tokyo Babylon's territory. |

Many of you are confusing "romantic anime" with "my favorite pairings." "Romantic anime" is a genre, or the description of a scene. "Top ten romantic scenes/couples/etc" would allow for Kenshin because the love between Kenshin and Kaoru is indeed very touching. "Romantic anime" does not allow for Kenshin.
And assuming we're talking about just romantic scenes then... I'm sorry, refresh me. Love Hina spends 24 episodes having Keitarou blindly pining away at Naru largely because of a fuzzy promise. Naru spend the entire time either 1) injuring him because of some stupid mistake SHE made 2) injuring him because she's jealous of someone 3) injuring him because she's PMSy. Boy loves girl. Girl spends the entire time beating up guy. Where is the romance in this? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I thought "romance" was when two people were in love, and expressed their feelings. Normal guys with spines would have ditched Naru and dismissed her as a bitch. Now Love Hina Christmas Special-- that's romance. But the Love Hina anime was something that did not convey any senses of romance to me whatsoever, other than a starry-eyed goofball with a harem of vicious women. In fact, Chobits is a better love story, and even one with interesting social ramifications. Examples of anime where the characters love each other and are willing to go through great lengths for each other: Fushigi Yuugi Marmalade Boy Voices of a Distant Star Kareshi Kanojo no Jijyo Boys Be Random Dating Sim Based Anime |

SakechanBD, I completely agree with you about Love Hina and how it should not qualify. But remember, not everyone will grade/categorize romance and different genres the same. Also keep in mind, there is no uniformly agreed upon standard in anime, more often than not classification by fans is subjective and not objective.

1. Kimagure Orange Road
2. Maison Ikkoku 3. Oh! My Goddess 4. Urusei Yatsura Nothing else really matters. Really, anything newer than OMG (the newest of those listed) just draws heavily from those listed or a number of others I didn't mention from much the same time period. |
