Okay, I've given all the new anime trailers a gander, and I'm going to go out on a limb and make this anime my last pick for "Most likely to stick with for all 12 or 13 episodes." I did pretty well with my picks last season - "Solo Camping" was the only one I dropped before the end, just because the leads' dynamic didn't do anything but irritate me for the first three episodes - and the background music and list of awards of the source material and the trailer's general vibe make it look like this anime is aiming to be more than a cheap cash grab. Even if it does turn out to be a bargain basement isekai clone, the combo of isekai and slice of life is going to hit two of my druthers at the same time.

Yeah, this was another of my, "I Ain't Even Gonna Check it Out 'Coz It's Such a Familiar Premise" selections, but I broke the seal on that by watching and kind of digging Hero Without a Class, so this one is gonna get a shot, too. Frankly it's easy to try something out when a lot of Summer shows have already wrapped up and the Fall firehose has not begun in earnest.

Many of the elements on display in the first episode are indeed (overly) familiar. The mc died for some reason (did he stroke out in front of the screen?) and is now enjoying his new life in a world filled with magic and monsters. He is also rather op and the responsible god in question might be a tiny bit shady/incompetent.
All that said, I will keep watching since Takeru is a lively mc, the animation is decent, I have a weak spot for gathering and the mood seems rather relaxed. I suppose I should also mention Takeru being freakishly tall for some reason. |

I wasn't sure if the MC was freakishly tall or if he was in a Hobbit village.
I didn't mind the rote intro since it went by fairly quickly. That said, I'm not a big fan of this idea that the MC can activate magic just by trying different words as if reading out of a thesaurus, and I'm also not a big fan of cute, flying sidekick animals in general though there are exceptions to every rule. I'll have to see if this gatherer premise opens up into any untread territories or who this darker version of the albino god was. I didn't like this anime as much as I was hoping, but I didn't dislike it. As mentioned previously, the narrator is affable and the vibe isn't bad, but I couldn't tell if this was going to be an adventure isekai or a relaxation anime.. |

Episode 1
This is an easy pass for me. I did manage to watch the whole episode and that was more than enough to know it's not for me. I just find it too banal and I can tell the cutesy-wootesy critter would be like nails running down a chalkboard for me. Totally weird that we find out the MC died on Earth but no reason given... what makes it weird is as smurky noted, our last image of him was watching TV. How can you tell us he died and not bother mentioning how, given there is no visual cue like Truck-kun rolling down the street??? Doesn't help that the MC is depicted as an idiot at times. When he was running in the forest and saw a bit of a clearing, I thought, "Their not going to have him run out into the open and immediately fall--" Yep, they are. He's in an underground cavern and is so absorbed by magic water that he doesn't hear a booming voice talking to him FIVE TIMES? Naw. |

There's a pretty good chance I'll be hitting the ejection button by episode 3. My biggest concern is that this show has the hallmarks of being a show about the protagonist taking an alternate route to being OP and pretty much doing the slice of life thing as an excuse. I'm basing this on things like the protagonist having a magic system that can pretty much be adapted to solve any problem without any real effort, or stumbling ass backwards into an immensely powerful animal sidekick right off the bat and being immediately recognized by it because of his immense magical power. These are pages ripped straight out of the "How to Have Your Protagonist Wander Around Getting Effortlessly Worshipped With as Little Forethought as Possible" playbook.
The whole bit with making a food dish and liking - a staple in any real slice of life show worth its name - took place in under 10 seconds. So I've gone from overly optimistic to grumpily skeptical. |

I just watched this first episode, and I'm not happy with it at all.
I've been reading the manga version, "Sozai Saishuka no Isekai Ryokouki". It is far more detailed, taking much more time getting MC figuring out his surroundings, and what is the extent of his powers. Unfortunately, this happens a lot with LN's or Manga's that are turned into an Anime. I've only liked a few Anime versions of a story, that was better than the Manga, or LN. Because in some cases you can show some incident in the story better, than trying to describe it in a manga or LN. As for how the MC dies..... spoiler[He suffers heart failure from over work{a common trope.}] Signed: Janitor Tzap |

As of episode 2 it is clear that the show is going to be a very basic adventure. Events begin and end quickly and there is no depth to be found (yet?). If I were to mention anything of note about episode 2 then it is meeting new characters including a hungry elf plus some monsters (also Bee squawking for a third of the runtime).
I might keep watching more or drop it but I am unlikely to post about it since I am already struggling to think of anything to discuss. |

This anime still has the qualities that make a great trailer. It looks good and sounds good and has an easygoing vibe, but I'm not going to make it to the 3 episode rule on this one. It's not a strong slice of life, and it's not a strong action adventure fantasy but is just sort of there in between. If I was seriously isekai jonesing I might watch it, but there's a better isekai (at least so far) on the same day.

That was very generic. Hard pass. Need some sign of decent writing to make something like this watchable.

Generic it still is. That includes some goblins being a nuisance this week. The only reason that I am still watching is because we do not get anime about gatherers all that often and as a chronic loot hoarder I find it hard to drop due to that. |

I have to give kudos to the Takeru party for consisting of oddballs only. There is elf Brolite who relies on brute strength and whose survival skills are questionable at best, Clay the dragonewt who is a famous hero plus being quite strict and Takeru/Bee the foodies without any common sense. Seeing such a mismatched party is enough to make me stick around even with how mid the show is. |

The supposed curse being genetic malfunction due to inbreeding is an unexpected and interesting outcome. It makes sense given how the elves are so adamant and obsessed with keeping their bloodline pure. |

That was an entertaining enough anime to watch until the end. It did nothing special besides the inbreeding elves plotline yet it stayed consistent and it was amusing to see the gang go on adventures. I do have to complain about Gatherer being another isekai where the supposed gimmick is not really a thing. There was not a lot of gathering to be found besides the first two episodes. |
