The set-up was kind of painful, but I did enjoy the pay-off. It looks like this anime might be doing some back and forth with two completely opposite personalities wrestling for the steering wheel of the same body while trying to fulfill a restless spirit's unfinished business. That's not a bad premise. It doesn't look like there's going to be a lot of humor, but it does look like the hypocrisies of a noble court are going to be getting aired amid some down and dirty social manipulations.
I wasn't blown away, but the anime kept my attention, and the plot is a winner if handled right. I hope the two extreme personality types learn from each other though, because it would be nice to see Constance being more than a doormat before all is said and done. |

Yeah, the buildup to the possession was starting to make me boil a little. I half-wanted a different girl named Scarlett to show up and just punch that c in the face

This was great first ep with not really any idle parts. There's also some nice Count of Monte Cristo energy here, in the setting obviously, and also something in the way how Scarlett is thirsting for vengeance. Hoping for elaborate chessmaster schemes where lots of people get their comeuppance, also conflicts in motivation between Constance/Scarlett seems interesting. I'm anyway a sucker for the whole villainess genre, so looking pretty good.

Another title I wasn't initially going to sample but then I think it was the Most Anticipated Anime of Winter 2026 article that tempted me to at least try it. I liked it. I think the combination of a bitch on wheels spirit and doormat girl will be amusing. |

I think the "bully" was a little too stupid, in a way thats standard for the genre but undermined the fact that the conversation was to make our ghost look smart.
But otherwise, a strong start for a villainess show. Both the double act and being more visceral than most similar offerings are good points of interest. |

Here come the elaborate chessmaster schemes! But looks like there are multiple players, I have no idea of what any of that means, except that obviously there's some big conspiracy going on. So not only revenge, but uncovering a secret conspiracy with very secret goals. Looking forward for all this to unravel and make sense, but I guess that's not going to happen very soon.
From how he was portrayed, Randolph maybe could become a potential ally to Constance/Scarlett, so I guess we'll be seeing more of him later. Also, I don't remember seeing in first episode that Constance's soul exited the body when Scarlett possessed it, but now it's depicted. |

I'm editing this from where I was grousing about how Crunchyroll let the anime just hang out there and marinate without subtitles for half a day in my part of the U.S.
I had a lot of fun with this episode. So Constance's last name is Grail. And Scarlett went by the pseudonym Eris. And now they're supposed to destroy the Holy Grail of Eris. Is that a coincidence? I'm assuming that the tattoo on that woman's cleavage at the end was some kind of cult symbol... I also don't know if Lord Randolph Ulcer or whatever the @#$% his name is will be a Mr. Darcy kind of a character or a bona fide bad guy, but I'm leaning toward the former. I like Constance's friend. I really hope she doesn't turn out to be a manipulative villain, but this is the kind of story where I'm keeping at least one eye open for that kind of thing. Really leaning into the mystery aspect, and it was pretty good at it! Almost certainly be sticking with this; much more interesting so far than just another villainess show.

Episode 2
I'm having a lot of fun with this. Poor Constance is clearly going to be pushed into all kinds of uncomfortable situations thanks to her demanding spirit taskmaster. Fortunately, when things get too dicey, her soul will get the old heave ho and Bitch on Wheels rolls in to save the day. Like I say... fun stuff. |

Looking at the key art above, it occurs to me that Scarlett is rather well developed for a 16 year old girl.

Is she only 16??? Both her character design and her seiyuu make her seem older than that. Mind you, top heavy teen girls are not exactly a rarity in anime.

She was sixteen when she was executed and did not experience the ten years until she showed up outside the ball room. So while it has been twenty six years since she was born her appearance is forever sixteen and mentally she would still be sixteen.

It sounds like a book called Ender's Game where all these genius IQ kids are gathered in a battle school at age...I dunno...six or seven. Then, these supposedly six year old kids walk around displaying advanced motor skills and talking like adults. The best way to enjoy the novel is to just assume the narrator is an unreliable liar, ignore the nonsense, and pretend/assume the kids are the precocious sixteen year olds that they're written like. In this case, I agree that Eris doesn't act or comport herself like a 16 year old talking to another 16 year old. Fortunately, my skills in ignoring how nonsensical it is to have someone acting much older than they're supposed to be have been honed to razor sharpness by years of watching anime

I don't find Scarlett's actions and language to be inappropriate to her age. Children that associate mostly with adults tend to grow up mentally rather quickly. It appears that the life among the nobility in this country is just such a pressure cooker to make kids old before their time. If you have read anything of the early life of Elizabeth the first of England, at this age she was treading a fine line between enemies and supporters to avoid the headsman. The main difference is that Elizabeth was successful where Scarlett failed. I was joking about her physical development, but that is anime for you. I never cease to be amused by anime and manga emphasis on big 'uns. I suspect it may have to do with a relative absence of such things in real life. Back when I was in the Navy in the late 60s, I worked with some civilian contractors. A couple of guys who where in their 50s took R&R to Japan. When they got back they mentioned that they had been in the occupying forces immediately post war. The biggest difference they noted was that the girls had boobs, not particularly large except in contrast to a couple of decades earlier when they had none. |
