Nintendo did so well with the Switch they are competing with their own console. They need another BOTW to make Switch 2 sales increase.

So unless the RAM and NAND shortage screws it over, there’s a good possibility that the Switch will finally dethrone the PS2 (160 million) as the best selling console ever. (Funny enough, while I was looking up the number for the PS2, I stumbled across the previous number for PS2 sales, which was 155 million, measured a couple months before the end of PS2 production, which the Switch just overtook)

This in seven months is pretty wild, basically cementing the Switch 2 as having the fastest sales of any first year console. It'll probably hit Nintendo's revised 19 million threshold easy. Also not surprised to see the Switch become Nintendo's best-selling system of all time; it's only a matter of time before the PS2 is dethroned. Another interesting tidbit:
| Quote: | | Digital game sales accounted for 50.4% of total software sales this year so far for Switch and Switch 2 |
Notably, DLC is rolled into this, so physical ownership is likely higher. Switch and Switch 2 owners like owning their games

Be nice to finally see the PS2 get dethroned as the best selling game system of all-time.

This article is about lifetime sales for the Switch, so why have a picture of the Switch 2?

You are correct at the end.
The real number of PS2 sales is around 150 million, lastly seen in the December 2011 financial report. After that, they bundled together the sales of PS2+PS3 on financial reports, never disclossing how much each one sold.
Suddenly on late 2012, they updated the webpage to 155 million (the DS was around 150 million at that point), this number never appears on financial reports. The it isn't until 2024 that they updated the webpage AGAIN when the Switch was around 150 million, again, never showing in financial reports because lying there is an actual crime.
