Absolutely can't wait! This is the best series I've ever seen outside of Monogatari Series.

Possibly the least surprising sequel announcement of the season.

Not surprising at all, I just hope for two things:

1) HIDIVE also get S4 - not even remotely interested in CR's apparent cash-grab of S3 and S4.
2) A consideration to rework the ending into something even remotely more acceptable than the car crash of an ending that the manga was given.

At this point I am not sure how much money is Crunchyroll making off OnK. The manga's ending seems to have killed a lot of the anime's momentum.

Not a Cash grab when the production, publisher and licensor offer it to other platforms.

Seems like people just like making up excuses to shit on CR. Anyone else would have also taken the offer to stream a popular show, it makes zero sense to not do it and bring in more customers, specifically when Hidive is region locked. At least I can legally watch it now.

It wasn't already doing that much for hidive to begin with, already outside of the top 10 most streamed shows last year (and it's not like they got that many new ones).

On my end, the CR most popular list, hasn't been updating with the new shows so I can't check how it did on that popular list, but reviews wise it got less than the likes of Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord... so yeah... doesn't seem like it set the world on fire, on MAL it also got very modest numbers in comparison with s1/2.

In the end it was mostly about sony buying 10% of kadokawa and given a choice to get it, so they went for it. Didn't change much to anyone, aside from maybe staying on digital hell forever if sentai doesn't get to do a home media release.

This series will be making a lot of news if they reworked the ending. I really wonder whether Aka will allow it.

It probably won’t change too much. Just improving the overall execution.

The announcement wasn't really a surprised considering they've come this far to adapt the story. Might as well finish adapting it anyway.

I'd be surpirsed if the ending will be an an anime original, so far the anime adaptation is like 1 is to 1 adapatation. I would assume they would have announced it by now if they are doing a different ending.

Why are so many people expecting a change to the ending? I didn't read the manga and only have a vague idea of what happens, but has there been any indication that Akasaka was dissatisfied with the ending in any way? Has he said he had any regrets about doing it the way he did? It is my understanding that the anime has made basically no changes to the story barring some pacing and reordering of events, and the manga itself ended very recently so it's not like he's looking back on it 10 years later with a fresh perspective or anything. I feel people are setting themselves up for disappointment by spinning this ever growing desire turned speculation about a change in the ending that sounds unlikely

It’s mostly blind hope because people were unsatisfied with the ending. Same thing happened with Attack on Titan and to be fair the anime did improve the ending without radically changing anything.

I think it's kinda because structure-wise, the story seemed to be building up to a particular twist, and when that particular twist did happen without being followed up by anything else, it kinda sorta no longer became a twist and just became a disappointment in general.

OK I’m mostly anime only, but I did read the final 5 chapters as they were coming out and also watched the entirety of the Live Action series and movie. What twist did people think the story was leading to? Ending Spoilers spoiler[The story is quite obviously leading towards Aqua dying, like this season is heavily hinting towards. Like we get scenes of Aqua saying that he’s given up all hope of living a happy life, Akane crying about how she couldn’t save Aqua, all the scenes of Aqua standing on a cliff overlooking the sea like he’s going to jump off and kill himself, Ichigo saying that Miyako needs to keep an eye on Aqua cause it looks like he’s going to break.] Like what did people think the series was leading to? Not that I don't understand why people didn't like the ending, but the series always seemed to be leading to that point in hindsight, ending spoilers spoiler[especially when you look at ending 1 and see that the sequence of scenes from minute 1.10-1.30, is literally a direct shot for shot adaptation of Aqua dying from the end of the manga.]
