Never heard of this studio, but I do find the concept intriguing. Hopefully the production value is decent enough.

A charming start. The overpowered Minato just chilling in his garden/godly realm while all kinds of godly and divine critters show up to hang out sounds like a fun time. The contrast with the Onmyoji desperately trying to handle the evil spirits running amok should make for a few interesting and possible exciting situations.

It took me until the end of the episode to remember that his grandfather said that he only sees good ones, so that is why he might not see some things that the onmyoji can see, despite him not able to see the mountain god.

My knowledge of a lot of Japanese mysticism comes from anime, but I recall that if a Zashiki warashi leaves a house, the good fortune it is supposed to bring gets reversed, so I wonder if that is why the house had bad miasma when he came back, before he dispelled it.

I don't think this is the house he grew up in, is it? He didn't act like he recognized anything. I think the evil miasma was because the mansion had been vacant so long and Yamagami either was asleep or sealed and couldn't keep them in check. It wasn't just the mansion either, but the whole region.

Yamagami is just Fel in fabulous colors. Wink

The new place isn't the Grandfather's house unless the grandfather was considered a distant relative of his father (ouch).

I was a little worried when I saw how similar to Fel the mountain god looked too - I thought it might be one of those anime that jumps on a bandwagon and starts it rolling downhill. But I think this anime has its own thing going vibe wise, and the production values are decent, which is what I say when I think the animation and art aren't all that distinctive but they do their job and don't detract from the story in any way.

I think the balance between Minato's housebreaking and this onmyouji world could keep things from being too one note.

So yeah, I'm in.

D'oh! I found this redundant thread when I went looking for the one about Mistress Kanan being Devilishly Easy. Looks like we doubled up Tony. I don't know how to delete it, so if you could put this lame horse out of its misery...

I think Kill Blue, The Girl in the Manga Cafe, and a short about the Great Sage Riddle are the only ones left, or left out, and I wasn't planning to do those unless one of them popped up on Crunchyroll's TBA

Technically, Edjwald, yours was made first. I just didn't see it because the name was misspelled. But I merged them together, fixed the title, and just pasted my edits into the opener. No biggie Very Happy.

That smirking and rather petty/jealous Onmyoji might be in for a bad time. Messing with someone who has befriended mutiple gods and several mystical beings is likely a dumb idea. Besides that the episode introduced a lot of new critters. Reiki and Ouryuu seem like permanent new residents while Fuujin and Raijin will probably pop up every now and then. The money problem being solved just like that sure is something. There was also that dragon thingy Minato saved.

The animation could be a bit better at times but so far it is a chill show to unwind with.

The animation is indeed so so, but I'm liking the anime itself a lot more than just giving it a Meh +

Not sure why though. Maybe the growing sacred garden hits the same sweet spot that village building type anime do for some reason. Or maybe I find the strange fusion of two different genres is just right.

As to the sure to be unlucky in the near future Onmyouji, it isn't really a dumb idea on his part because he doesn't have all the information. It's more like karma come a calling or an unfortunate ignorance depending on how you look at it.

Watching this show kind of reminds me of sipping a nice cool lemonade while sitting on Minato's back porch. You are relaxing with no idea who might be showing up next. It could be a god, or a lucky spirit, or even an Onmyogi. BTW, ¥1,000,000 is around $6,600. Nice living expenses for a while.

You definitely get a sense of a different perspective when you hear a liquor store that has been open for 333 years and it seems normal to them. I guess being around for several thousand years will do that. It really makes our 250 years seem small.

I groaned out loud when his seeds first sprouted. "Omg, that looks like a camphor tree," and sure enough. A few years ago I had to spend $8 grand removing the camphor trees that were tearing up my neighbor's driveway and house foundation, and I still can't get rid of them. They just keep coming back and are now trying to grow in the crawlspace underneath my house, as well as invading the front lawn. They're faster than I am. They are the bane of my life, even if they're pretty.

Minato's going to get a reputation in town as an alcoholic, given all the booze he has to buy to keep his guests happy. The confectioners and bakeries must be wondering what he's doing with all those sweets he buys too, as I'm sure the local rumor mill has noticed by now that he lives alone. Good thing he's got Reiki around, though why a tortoise would want to live in a pond I don't know. Weirdly, he even seems to have his own mini-pond on his back, like a kappa saucer.

I hadn't looked at it from the rumors starting in a small town perspective, but if he keeps hitting scratch tickets every day, he won't just have to worry about a sketchy onmyouji.

@Gina, I was unfamiliar with the camphor tree since I live far enough north that it is too cold for this tree to survive. So I went to everyone's source on the Web, Wikipedia . I can now see why you are having problems with this tree. It is very aggressive and mean (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camphora_officinarum). Some countries classify it as an invasive species. In Australia it will kill the eucalyptus tree, which is the food source for those cute koala bears. Talk about being mean. Evil or Very Mad
