Good chemistry and actually funny, which anime comedy can be hit or miss on. The vomit gag is my anime joke of the year to date (which perhaps is an indictment of my intellect). If it can go the distance is another question- but I'll give it that chance.

I'm sure the borderline - or sometimes over the border - creepiness will put some viewers off, but I enjoyed the dark humor a lot. I laughed at the vomit gag too, and the serious discussion over whether Kirio farts and what kind of rich tambor said farts might have was funny. The anime definitely has its own thing going. The only thing that might derail it for me is if it goes off the rails with the sad or disturbing aspect too far or too often, but I'm rooting for this one because I really enjoyed it.

Editing this in - I'm also curious as to whether the short one is really obsessed with Kirio at all.

Given the first episode and even the cover picture in this very thread I am rather sure that Nami is purely interested in Aimi. Which is a tricky situation to be in since Aimi is all about Kirio to an absurd and often disturbing degree. I hope that the latter never finds out because he seems like a person to be utterly creeped out by it.

Whether I stick with this or not depends on how future episodes will go and if any kind of progress will be made.

I was wondering if I was misunderstanding the implication that Nami is actually in love with Aimi. In some ways I would just be in for the girls being unhinged. Like her hand in her mouth to try and vomit is something along the lines of Asobe Asobase. While on the other hand it looks like it is going for some sort of pathos in part of the premise possibly being a misdirect.

Still amuses me. I will probably watch the whole thing as the mean spirited bizzaro humour seems to largely hit for me in a way a lot of anime comedies don't.

I've not got great confidence in its more serious emerging love-polyhedron, though I'll give it a chance, and the production value is not great. Think it just comes down to if you laugh or not, the pure subjective comedy test.

This is why I make it a point to try out as many different new shows as I can (even if I am still at least six behind); just looking at the summaries and trailers, there's no way I would have predicted that this would have been one of my favorite new anime of the season. I'm not saying it couldn't lurch wildly off course at any moment. It already veers back and forth between sad and funny and sweet and obsessive. But,it seems pretty fresh to me, and in both of the episodes that I've seen so far there were at least two segments that caught me off guard and tickled my funny bone.

This week, it kind of sounded like Nami was implying that she was secretly trying to help Aimi get Kirio because she really loved Aimi and wanted her to be happy more than anything.

BTW - was that the childhood friend (okay 10th grade friend) shown spying outside the window while the love song was being created? Satsuki?

I still don't see this "Nami loves Aimi" thing. I believe Nami when she said that Aimi isn't that likeable as she has a rotten personality, it's probably her most obvious trait.

I feel episode 2 was a tremendous improvement over the first one as I was worried it could end as a low member after school club series or some such. On the other hand, the shift to an actual narrative will force me to trope talk because I know a riff on "those two guys" when I see it and having Aimi point out Satsuki as having "main character" energy is a trope in itself.

But the biggest hurdle is that I think Nami is the main character which shifts everyone's role a bit. This moves Aimi from "weird background girl" to "unlucky childhood friend".

And now everything starts making more sense....

Are you saying that you don't see evidence that Nami actually loves Aimi? When Naimi was asked how she started having feelings for Kirio she started saying something and then just said that "her crush" started in 9th grade before she knew Kirio. It is simple enough to read between the lines that she wasn't talking about Kirio, but her crush on Aimi.

Based on some of the other parts of the episode, I am wondering if Kirio might turn out to like Nami, which could make a love triangle.

But at the end oof the episode, we learn Aimi lied while Nami was telling the truth. Nami said her crush on Kirio started in 9th grade, which would be middle school. Aimi doesn't believe Nami met Kirio before high school because there's a number of signs that Aimi and Kirio grew up together... and considering that Kirio's friends wondered which of the two girls he like, I think Nami could be the only one who doesn't know.

One of the simplest things: Aimi is jealous of Satsuki being on a first name basis with Kirio because she used to be.

Going back to tropes, Kirio is the faceless anime protagonist, but instead of being the audience insert character, he's the "everything to everyone" guy because things got shifted. Which would mean his faithful encounter with Nami would be... I don't want it to be a rescue romance type but a "he was there when I needed him" sort of thing. Possibly during the entrance exam.... no, that doesn't feel right as it lacks impact.

I swear, this whole work feels like someone got an old dating game/visual novel, took it apart and then rebuilt it from the perspective of two of the possible love interests. Which character type is the stronger though, First Girl Wins or Unlucky Childhood Friend?

Aimi doesn't want Nami to have a possible in by being the First Girl, that's for sure.

Welp, time will keep telling about the Aimi/Nami thing.

For my part, I'm starting to think that this isn't just going to be a love triangle.

Ever seen one of those action movies scenes where there are eight people with guns and they're all aiming a pistol at someone else at the same time. I'm starting to wonder if this anime is going to turn into the romantic comedy version of that.

I am liking this quite a bit, they are such fun knuckleheads. And this early, the plot and comedy possibilities seem endless. I just hope it doesn't turn dark and dramatic, I want my laughs.

That's a common pitfall of Harem comedies that have more than one season, but this isn't necessarily a harem comedy though it seems like there might be some tangled-up love interests at cross currents.

Not as funny as the last two episodes- but still funny enough that I'm here for the ride.

I'll say this, Aimi has gotten more out loud laughs (or at least chuckles or snorts) than any other character this Spring 2026 season so far. Doesn't mean it's the best show, but it's something.

I enjoyed the pseudo 50's music with the diner background.

I'm wondering - is Kirio shy around women or in love with one of the female leads or what? And if so, which one?
