Sounds like Inu-Yasha meets Demon Slayer. I wonder which one it'll be closer to? At any rate, Sunrise has been putting out some really high-quality productions the last few years. Yuuki Kaji as Mao should be great.

An interesting start. Battling evil demons/monsters and the like has been done plenty of times before but the mix of present and past makes me curious. The past seems rive with all kinds of nasties while the present is also unsafe given how Nanoka has lost her parents (and might have died herself?). The disgusting looking smoothies likely suppressed Nanoka her abilities but I have a hard time imagining gramps to be evil. Add the charming presentation and I am all in.

I was looking forward to this even before I knew it was based on a manga by Rumiko Takahashi, whom I revere. Enjoyed the first episode. I like the fact that Nanoka seems like she'll be bouncing back and forth between the two timelines, just like Kagome in Inuyasha.

I only do one subscription besides Crunchyroll and Hidive at a time, and I'm doing Netflix right now, so I'm going to have to watch Rooster Fighter and Mao at some later point during the year. They both look like they could be cool though.

Given that Mao said that Nanoka is the same as him that would mean that she too ran into the Byoki/cat demon at some point. I assume that it happened during the accident that killed her parents and was thus no accident at all. That does raise the question why a cat demon from the past popped up in the present time though. The spider case was a fun one, the heads filled with little spiders was quite something.

The time travel thing is a bit weird. Unless I am mistaken Nanoka never really clarified her being able to jump between times all that extensively and if she did then Mao is not at all impressed or interested in exploring it. It would seem like a thing to make a fuss about but maybe with all the monsters, curses and such it is nothing to worry about.

I am interested in what the logic is for the time skips.

I've seen time travel stories where 1 day present = x day(s) past/future, and vice versa, but I've never seen one where it's variable. One day Mao time = 7 days Nanoka time, but 1 day Nanoka time = (I forget) many days Mao time. Not even sure if those ratios are fixed or not. What Ep 3 made pretty obvious though, is that Nanoka saw the past village's future on fire, and that's the End of the World the shaman is predicting.

The real question now is what direction the show will take in regards to time travel and changing things. If Nanoka goes back in time and helps alleviate the damage done by the upcoming disaster/earthquake what will happen to her timeline. Shouko actually being able to see the future to some degree is ironic, those that listened to her and left the city will likely survive because of it.

So the time discrepancies are apparently not fixed ratios. I hadn't realized the sinkhole accident was on the anniversary of the Kanto quake, but as soon as Shouko said the earth would split, I knew that's what she foresaw.

It's almost too bad that she was outed as a fraud (mostly) since few will believe her now.

I see Mao will be cosplaying as Inuyasha next week. Very Happy

The time thing is very unclear in general. As of episode 5 it looks like the Great Kanto Earthquake somehow caused/contributed to the accident Nanoka and her parents were involved in. The timing lines up perfectly. Yet Nanoka has already experienced said accident while the earthquake has still to take place in Mao's timeline. Could be some loop at play I suppose.

Given the preview for next week Nanoka has been gone for a month in modern time.

Those flea monsters were plain creepy and those smoothies are very much suppressing Nanoka's abilities.

I have enough trouble with time travel stories when they're straightforward and the time-lapse ratios are fixed if discrepant. But I can't begin to sort it out when it's seemingly random. Gah.

I've been wondering about the being with the hair in its mouth for awhile, since it didn't seem to be cat demon.

I'm sure gramps is a good guy, probably trying to suppress her powers to protect her from hair-eating monster finding her. And housekeeper is his shikigami, like Otoya.

So it is indeed a time loop of some sort. Byoki escaping through the portal while going after young Nanoka somehow ends with her being covered in his blood and thus being cursed. The undead? grandfather then takes care of her and those nasty smoothies weaken her curse powers. It does make me wonder if Byoki is in current time though given that he went through the portal. Nanoka calling attention to her younger self makes it a self made/caused loop.

Given how utterly random the time ratios are, I'd think the first thing I'd ask on returning to either side is the date. One night in the past was more than a month in her present this time, so given that it was only a couple of weeks (from her pov) until the quake, when going back to the past it seems even more imperative to know. tl:dr She shouldn't have been surprised. Smile

The other mystery now is who/what created the portal? Also, what was in the suitcase? If that was like their go-bag, why was the cat's purple whatever in it?

Plus the Byoki claiming that it was framed, which might make the whole thing a lot more complicated.
