I am unsure if this is correct or not: Wasn't Mezzo Forte a hentai that was toned down on the U.S. release? I saw the DVD and there was a version that was uncut and a version equivelant to an R rating. Or at least that is what I thought. I think the art of this series is great and I'll check it out if it isn't a hentai or something perverted. But, hell, everyone likes to see some dick and pussy, now don't we? Laughing

Mezzo TV is the sequel to Mezzo Forte. Forte was a hentai, TV is suposedly a good a show. haven't seen either of them yet. I checked the encyclopedia, and there were 2 releases of Mezzo forte on dvd, one with like 5 minutes of more stuff.

I've seen the OVA(uncut), and the first three episodes of Mezzo TV.
The OVA is pretty good, a decent story and great animation. The hentai in the OVA was extreme, but it didn't add anything to the story. I know I would've enjoyed the OVA as much or even more if I hadn't seen the hentai parts as well.
the TV series is indeed a sequel to the OVA, but there are a few very disturbing things about it. The designs have remained the same, but the animation overall is just below the level of any other decent TV series of the last few years, and of course way below the OVA's level as well.
Second they've shifted the focus of cyberpunk sci-fi storylines to supernatural occurrences, and as those just don't fit into the Mezzo universe it's rather disappointing imho.
Third I just hate Kurokawa's voice acting, but that's just personal I guess, other people liked it.
Overall it's just not as good as the OVA, but still enjoyable at some points. It might pick up, as the episodes were 'stand-alone' so far, with only a little hint in the direction of a larger complot in every episode.

Wow. Did you and I even *watch* the same show? The first episode of Mezzo TV had *great* animation; very fluid, smooth as silk. Lots of action. Beautiful animation.

When people say stuff like this it boggles my mind.

I ended up getting my hands on both copies of mezzo forte and honestly the hentai element feels like it was added just for the sake of hentai. In the cut up version it was editted out and nothing was lost from the anime whatsoever. So if you want to see mezzo forte you will not be missing anything if you go ahead and catch the editted version.

I just browsed through ep 1 again, and I have to admit that the animation on that particular episode is indeed quite good, not to say really good. But as far as I am concerned the level of the animation has dropped considerably in ep 2 and 3.

I'm loving Mezzo tv so far. I find it's nice to watch something by that creator that isn't completly disturbing.

* If there is a lack of animation quality she hasn't noticed it, or doesn't care. There is the thing that bugs her about facial movements/expressions with that chracter's designs, but she's used to it because that's in all the guy's anime*

Wow I posted pretty much the samething on mezzo TV last this weekend and only got a couple responses. But anyway I saw the first three. They are alright. The storylines haven't done anything to impress me yet, but the quality of the movement style is decent enough.

I'm still trying to figure out where they are going with DSA and maybe there will be some backbone to the plots besides these stand alone episodes so far. I will keep watching to see where it goes of course.

Quality dropped dramatically in episode 3. Picked up in episode 4, but it still isn't anywhere near as good as the first two episode. I'm really hoping that they're just saving a little for later. It would be a total tragedy if they spent all of their cash on the first episode.

And don't bash Kurokawa. He's the best part of the show!

I have seen Mezzo TV up to episode 7 and I must say that I am rather impressed. However, the direction of the series, the story writing, the plot and characterisation is bordering on non-existence. It may not be one the best titles of 2004 but definitely one of the better ones released for the year thus far.

Its all style. And action.
