Dobutsu series are my favorite type of anime and manga! Normally, they are considered a genre, much like humor, drama, or horror.
However, "Dobutsu" are centered more around animals. Sometimes the series can be told in first point perspective (from the animal's point of view). Other times the trainer, vet, or unlucky human who can understand what the animals are saying is the star of the show. Some manga examples might be Inubaka, Chikyu Misaki, Bow Wow Wata, What's Michael?, or Ginga Legend Weed. A good example of an Dobutsu anime may be the more recent "Chi's Sweet Home" Do you like Dobutsu Series? and (if so) Which one is your Favorite?

Could you maybe explain what dobutsu is? I've never heard of any of your manga examples. I have a vague idea what the genre is because I am watching Chi's Sweet Home, but I'm not certain, and there are lots of people who aren't watching it. So perhaps you could more thoroughly explain dobutsu than a genre that is "centered more around animals."
