I got my reply from Bandai. Apparently I'm to pay shipping to send them the bad disc, but at least they didn't ask for self addressed return shipping for the replacement.

When I had to return my Escaflowne Ultimate Edition DVD I got a check with the new DVD for the cost of postage. I remember all the Ultimate Edition discs had a big defect about half way through the movie.

For all the people asking about FYE, you really don't want to buy the boxset from there. It was $75 last time I went Shocked
Bought mine from DD around the middle of Dec. for $40, unaware of the issues with the discs. For me, it was actually Disc 1 that started acting up, though. Unaware of the defective-disc thing, I thought it was just my combo DVD/VHS player (thing's a piece of garbage). I tried the rest of Disc 1 and 2 on my laptop and everything was fine.
As for sending the DVDs back, I'm probably not going to, because I've heard Bandai's customer service is like negotiating with the devil. The skips are pretty minor on my copy anyway.

No, Bandai will replace your DVDs (there are copies that work) and from what I've heard their customer service is pretty good. But you do have to pay for the shipping.
