I'm tired of having to use my controller to watch DVDs because the batteries die fast when I leave it on and I hate cutting it on and off when I want to rewind something. So I've taken interest in the 360 remote and I want to know if I'm still able to seamlessly change the audio and subtitles with the remote like I am with the controller?

I don't have personal experience with the 360 remote (although as I use my 360 as a DVD player I do understand the frustration), but I would think that the remote can do anything the controller can. If it is anything like the PS3 remotes (which I do use) then there are buttons that do the same thing as on the controller... just laid out in a remote-handy format, in addition to new buttons that simply a lot of the processes.

I've no experience with the remote either... but I do highly reccomend just picking up a Play n' Charge kit to solve your battery woes. $20 gets you a rechargeable pack and the USB cable to charge it with- and the controller can be plugged in with said cable to run off the system's current, letting you play while charging. It was the first accessory I bought for my 360, and it was completely worth it. Wink

I'd have to agree with DuelLadyS. Unless you're going to be more than 20 feet away from you're TV or moving around a lot when you watch it then there really shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't just leave the controller plugged in. If for some reason you just have to have the remote control then, yes, it does have all of the functionality you can get from the controller.

Or you could just spend $40 dollars or so on a DVD player and save some wear and tear on your 360.

Hm...the rechargeable battery is three dollars cheaper at the site I'm looking at. You know, I think I'll get the charger instead because I don't need another remote (I already have three I have to use).

Thanks everyone

Make sure it's the kit with the cable, and not just the battery- they do sell the batteries stand alone for people who may need replacements- but you can't charge them unless you already have the cable.

This is what I'm looking at

I see a cable and battery so it looks cool to me, but no harm in double checking here.

That's a 3rd party setup... it's not wrong, but I can't vouch for how well it works, side from that I'm not sure if you can play and charge at the same time (the cable looks like to goes straight to the battery.)

The first party ones connect at the top of the controller (here's the Best Buy link.) It comes with white or black batteries, and you can buy extra batteries to match the blue and pink controllers. Because it connects at the top, the cable feeds the controller signal, which means you can sync controllers much faster (just plug in, turn on, done)- or, you can actually play with no batteries at all, like a wired controller. It's very handy.

It is worth mentioning a lot of universal remotes also support the 360/Windows MCE. This may be worth looking into depending on what remote you use for your TV/cable/satellite.

Agreed. Logitech sports a $99 universal remote which covers 5 basic components.

For $100 more, there's a remote I simply can't live without, as it covers so much, I swear it opens my garage door just for fun.

Also KingOfHarts, that link shows the battery to be NiMH. Please note these are "memory keeping" cells, which means you must let them drain completely before recharging. Don't put the controller on the charger every night, or that level is retained as the charge point.

You know, I might look into that. My DirtecTV remote is semi-universal and I used to use that for everything, but then I upgraded my TV and got my 360 and it kind of lost its use outside of flipping channels. Having a single remote for my TV, 360, radios and garage could be nice.

Also, thanks Duels and PJ for the heads up on that charger. I was surfing through there one day and saw that they had a charger for $10 and saved it for this very situation. Good thing I asked first.
