This is sort of related to a previous post, hopefully it wont get locked.
I was going to finish up my Tokyo Mew Mew manga (I have 1st editions) and noticed that the covers now are completely different colors and look CHEAP. The fancy glitter font and bright background is replaced with just a solid plain printed cover.
VB Rose had metallic gold font on the cover (earlier volumes). Now they reprinted the covers without that font and have matte covers.
Wish was printed with color pages (1st generation) and now they're being printed without the color pages.
Did anyone else notice? I seem to be seeing lots of quality cuts..

I am thinking that this is because all three titles that you listed are published by Tokyopop. Tokyopop has been having tons of quality issues recently, it does not surprise me in the least that they'd do something like this on top of everything else.
I can't seem to think of Viz having any problems (although they did publish some covers for Muyho and Roji's BSI vol 1 upside down), I don't think Yen Press has been in it long enough to have cover changing issues quite yet, and I can't honestly think of any major issues with Dark Horse, Del Rey, or CMX on this one either.
Also, I have a feeling this thread might get merged with the Tokyopop quality issues thread, but not necessarily locked altogether. I'm not sure anyone has brought up the issues with their covers, I'll admit I rather hadn't noticed it myself.

Well, there is a Viz thing that has been bothering me for a while now. Why are only the first three volumes of Fullmetal Alchemist shiny?
Tokyopop is the worst. I miss my shiny Jing King of Bandits covers. Six out of the seven volumes I own are nice and metallic. The other one is very boring and had the big red logo. And then there are a bunch of volumes from other series with faded looking covers even thought they were never really exposed to sunlight.
CMX did have a big cover changing thing, but it was for the better. It made the spinelines for older series inconsistent though.

My only real cover complaint is how all the Shojo Beat spins look the same now. I liked it when there was some variety in their design, now they are clearly a template with title inserted here (always in the same font) and a picture of a character inserted here. Very unexciting, especially given that the spines are seen more than the covers.

I remember Fruits Basket used to have the nice first print copies with the nice textured inner covers, with colour prints. Second editions just had them black and white, and I HATE having some, but not others the same. For the later issues, they just used the cover instead of the special paper to put the colour on, but now they all have it... but it just doesn't look as good
Another I'm mad at, is I bought the whole set of Tokyo Babylons online. ...all but ONE contain the first page mini-poster pull out. I HATE having not all of them the same! But, what can you do?
I think those are my main gribes. Sucks for Tokyo Mew Mew though, I love my sparkley covers^^

I'm not sure why Wish is even on that list...
The Wish Manga has been out for years now of course they won't have the color pages anymore.
If TokyoPop puts the special covers or colored pages in their Manga it's normally just for the first print, That's it. Sort of like a special "Thank You" for buying the book when it first comes out.
It's also only for their more popular series, If they don't do that well the "special" stuff goes away entirely.
