It has been made clear by several mods that victim blaming posts will not fly. You don't have to agree with how things are playing out, but victim blaming, no matter how sly or overt, will not be tolerated. A few more just got removed. If the same users continue on with it moderation will be the next step.

I think when discussing these cases it is important to have an open discussion. Otherwise, we are just gossiping and feeding fires.
It's possible society is in this situation because there has not been enough conversations regarding how to react to trauma and abuse. People need to know the options that are available and what the responsible thing to do is. They can also receive support and encouragement from individuals who have gotten through similar things. Simply, I am unsure what constitutes "victim abuse"? |

See, for me the line about "am I going to even bother watching it, at least in a way that gives this money?" has to do with if the abhorrent person behind it makes any money off of my method of watching it. Voice actors are paid once, before the series is every released, based on hours in the booth, so I feel about rewatching Ouran the same way I do about some work by some terrible creator who is long dead or otherwise no longer making money off of it. (Like rewatching Woody Allen movies is different from seeing them in theaters, though he's such a major part of all his movies that's a totally different issue...) That's where I draw the firm line, though, I'm not talking about what I think others should do. I also try to avoid giving to terrible people or causes in general, like I don't buy Chik-fil-A anymore because of the business's donations to anti-LGBTQ hate groups. I feel like not supporting creators known to support abhorrent causes is similar to a boycott like that for me. But this is all very tricky stuff that everyone has to sort out their own way.
I think most victims know that "get over it" or "forgive" are options for them, though. No one needs to tell them this. This is what most of society is already telling them. I'm not sure how it helps the conversation to put that forward, especially in the judgmental, dismissive tone so many have used here.
I think like most things it's a case of: don't be a dick. Use "I" statements, phrase it in terms of what you did/think you would do, don't tell other people what to do, don't be judgmental or condescending. Listen. In my opinion, those of us that are asking for evidence are being misunderstood. These claims are taking a major toll on someone’s life and career. A complete investigation and subsequential evidence (beyond hugs/kisses and a piggy back ride) has to be provided before I will choose to believe these accusations. I am a firm believer in justice and the belief that someone is innocent until they are proven guilty. Many of those that are voicing their opinions seem to be lacking substantial proof or credibility in their reasoning. However, I’ve been glad to see there have been a few that have provided good insights (however invalidated they may be at this time). On the subject of victim abuse, we are having a discussion on an online forum regarding a sexual harassment case (in which no victims have been named, except piggy back guy). However, based off what you’ve stated, I don’t think we will agree regarding the severity of simple speculation and reasoning on this touchy matter. |

I know I'm late to this discussion but I felt I had to say: Thank you. This is very well said. |

As for the religious services thing, it's not really that much of an imposition on conventions, at least in my experience. After all, these Christian services tend to be on Sunday mornings, and as we know, Sunday is the slowest day of any convention. From the panel submissions I see, Sunday morning in particular ranks dead last in terms of when panelists want to host -- everyone's either left the convention, checking out of their hotel rooms, or sleeping in. I've run some panel or another myself at 10 AM on Sunday for the past 8 years, in the spirit of "taking one for the team." So on some level, a Guest of Honor running a Sunday morning church/religious service is doing the convention a favor, by filling out a relatively marginal timeslot. It's also worth noting that some conventions are in more conservative areas of the country, and some attendees actively want some kind of religious content; it saves them from going off-site, and they may not be familiar with worship venues in the area. (Fortunately, we have an actual Catholic priest on staff who runs a Sunday Mass.) I mentioned that Mignogna was at our convention this past year, and he didn't request to do anything in the religious realm, much less demand to. Caitlin Glass did run a service a few years ago, without incident. |

Worth a review. This list spans 10+ years and shows there is a pattern. |

I've gone to several cons and I've certainly seen him hugging fans and kissing people on the cheek. I don't think I ever saw him ask permission for either. It was just like his default fan reaction. If that's what he's being accused off then he's certainly guilty of it.
To me he just came off as a "touchy-feely" type of person. I've seen them before from all walks of life. They can be annoying, but I always thought of it as normal/ok on the personality spectrum. Thinking about it more, I guess it is sexual assault/harassment if you just look at the facts of it. I wish we could separate the claims of sexual harassment/assault from stuff like "I heard he got mad once" (who hasn't?) and "he's religious". Have to say Caitlin Glass and Micah Solusod have been pretty solid about this and aren't hypocritical at all to say the least. Both are christian but actually follow their faith and aren't judgmental. |

I'm actually curious where people are getting those lists from, because for example, I follow Laura Bailey on both Twitter and Instagram and haven't seen anything from her that you could even construe as being related to this. (And wouldn't be surprised, since she doesn't really do anime anymore and is also pretty busy as a new mom. She might be out of the loop, although I know that people in the #KickVic Twitter tag have been @-ing VAs who've done anime with Vic to get a statement from them, which I really wish they would stop doing.) Some of the other people on the list did say stuff but after they were listed, although they'd made vague RTs you could construe as being about that.

Oh yes, I've been hearing "Vic is jerk/diva/creep" for years and years now. I've never really been a fan of his so if this evidence damages his career, I can't say I'm sorry about it.
To add to the stories, con staff have also told me that he's a big pain to deal with. Nothing sexual; just.....rude and unpleasant. |

After this, I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch a dub that he’s in anymore without feeling physically disgusted.

I'm not taking either side without solid proof, but...It just all feels off to me. I've been going to my local con for over ten years now, and Vic himself has been a guest for many years. He does strike me as just the type to give his fans affection without thinking there'd be any problem, and I have a hard time seeing his intentions as malicious. People are complaining they felt uncomfortable even though they were smiling in the photos, yet no one said anything to him them, or even after the fact. But they had no problem jumping onto a hateblog on Tumblr and labeling him as the worst person ever. Also, cons were always very affectionate places. EVERYONE hugged. And Vic is definitely not the only voice actor to hug/kiss their fans, with or without consent.

My gut instinct says everyone's being a little too harsh on old Vic.
We live in an age of a new moral panic like the Red Scare in the 1950s or the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s, now in the 2010s it's about sexual harassment and people abusing power dynamics. It's understandable why these things happen because no one likes to think of bad people getting away with bad things, but too often it turns into a kind of hysteria where people get pretty amped up, paranoid and make mountains out of molehills, misinterpret things, assume the worst in people and seem to enjoy the schadenfreude of ruining others lives and careers rather than a genuine thirst for justice. It's hard to nail down the truth in this cultural moment, where one side will believe anything a "victim" says but the other side will snidely dismiss everything, neither is really the right approach if you ask me. I will say this though, if it's true I am highly disappointed in Vic, Fullmetal Alchemist was one of the defining things of my teenage years and I really do think his performance as Edward Elric was one of the all time great dub performances (I also loved him in Persona 3) So this would really put a damper on some of my happiest memories of my teenage days, so it's definitely hard to seperate my nostalgia and emotions surrounding Vic with whatever the truth may be, I hope people who are convinced he's guilty can at least sympathize with people who find it hard to take that someone they were a fan of for well over a decade might not be the person who they thought they were. |
