In the US that's consider a flop since it didn't make 80 mil or something. Is this good for an opening in JP for something like this?

Whether something's a flop or not depends on its budget - I don't think any anime movie has a budget anywhere near the level of Hollywood productions, except for maybe Ghibli's fare.

No it's not. Out of the hundreds of movies that come out every year, maybe 5 would be considered under performers if they made less than 80 million in their opening weekend.

For fun, let's punch up some numbers. The movie earned about $17K per screen. If that's the net rather than the gross, the movie earned 41% of a $1 million budget or 14% of a $3 million one; if that's the gross and the net is 50%($8500 per screen), that's still 20% or 7% recovery, respectively. Not that bad for one weekend.

Earnings per screen look to be pretty respectable. Real money will come from the DVD/BD sales and related merchandising.
