$500+ well so much for getting this then. The japanese prices for Anime are truly nuts sometimes.

I am usually a proponent of paying good money ($10-15 per episode) for anime when a series is worth it. But $500 for 7 episodes is really insane. It would have made more business sense to charge no more than $200 for this English dubbed set. I imagine big fans of it would have imported it.

$200-$250 for 7 episodes would have been okay for a LTD Set for an older series. I'm dissapointed about the price also since it limits the chance of it coming over to the states too due to reverse importation. Altho the chances of that were mega mega mega slim.

The article also fails to mention that Media Factory is giving this release a 4K HD restore of the telecine print.

Double length episodes mind you. It's closer to 15 standard-length (22-24 min) episodes from what I remember.

This information doesn't my opinion the asking price is ridiculous.

This series has done well for itself and has certainly paid back its production costs.

This is a pure money grab for having to do little work to it.

It's a remaster.

I'm sure it didn't take them 12 years to remaster it as much as it took to make it.

That sounds lovely, now we need some bigger inexpensive TVs to match.

Yeah the prices are crazy, but that's just how Japan is. Even if it were cheap, you'd still be paying like $250. I do wonder why it's set at that current price if it's not a limited/special edition.

That's probably a good choice, since it's been said that Giant Robo was way more successful outside of Japan than in it. (It has already been established that there will be English subtitles too, right?)

That said, THAT IS SO EXPENSIVE... UGH...

Too bad both English dubs for Giant Robo were horrendous. Are the Japanese mascochists or what?

Nope, they just don't know what is considered bad dub. To Japanese ears, English dub is just a warble.

I could understand the pricing scheme on this one. Is GR really that big in Japan? Plus, those old masters probably cost a fortune to restore.

Not sure how big it is. The set has been in the Amazon top 5 for DVD/BD ever since it was solicited 3 days ago. So I'd think it certainly has at least a moderate sized fan-base that really wanted Giant Robo remastered.

Is it a bird? A plane? No, it's ethnocentrism!
