Hey everybody,

I know this is probably not the best way to do it and I should do the search myself, but there's so many anime titles I could watch and I can't really decide... plus I've already spent many hours on searching.

Anyway, I enjoy Naruto and Beck: MCS (and Ghost in The Shell when it comes to movies)... and I'm looking for something, preferably, similar to Beck but I'm also open to anything fantasy/sci-fi. Smile (Oh, if it's of any help I didn't really enjoy Bleach...)

Thanks!

Wow, I'm not sure there's really anything out there that can match BECK..

But for starters, try looking here and then at least referring to their Encyclopedia entrys for a little background info. If you have any specific questions about the content that accompanies these titles, please feel free to ask and I (and hopefully other users) will try to assist you.

I'm actually a little tired of recommending anime since there are lot of titles that I like and each person has different tastes to cater for, so I'll do my best, but I hope this will help for now.

If your into some Comedy with matching Drama & a little action romance I'll recommend Fruits Basket, if you're in Serious Drama, Romance and wanna be sad Air TV, if you're in Full Action with a little bit gore and some drama Full Metal Alchemist, if you're on Shoujo Mode Full Moon wo Sagashite if you wanna laugh out your lungs Full Metal Panic: Fumuffu, if you like sports and boxing... Hajime no Ippo (aka. Fighting Spirit) anyway, it depends on you if you'll love this series though. Anyway, these are top rated series that I've seen, and I guarantee you'll love these. Wink but then again, your personality might reject it...

Oh, yeah forgot to add one thing... nothing sad, please... I'm already too depressed (a lot more than you can probably imagine).

Thanks for those recommendations, I'll look into them right now... Smile

in the context of you liking NARUTO... I'll give you shows that you will possibly like... *mostly Shounen it seems*

let's see...

I'll SECOND FIGHTING SPIRIT...

trust me, you will LOVE that

LEGEND OF BLACK HEAVEN... it's sort of shallow on the surface, but when you dig around, it's very deep... *remninds me of THE INCREDIBLES... it's in SORT OF that vein*

it's about how to save space using rock and roll...

try renting it, it may seem cheesy, but it's a completely enjoyable experience... it has a band like in Beck, if that helps

also:

- GETBACKERS
- Tenjho Tenge has cool fights from what I hear
- Full Metal Alchemist *a lot of people have taken a shine to it, you should give it a shot*

...

any other shows you like? it could help if you list more stuff

As Tony said, there is nothing that can match beck... I wish there was but sadly, there isn’t.

On the lighter side of things, I would recommend every title mentioned so far and Chobits, DNA2, Kare Kano, Martian Successor Nadesico, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Record of Louduss War, and Trigun... All these anime are really popular but there all really just great series none are that depressing and most are just plain ol' fun!

Exactly. Beck is a freakin great anime! Also check out Monster, It's a very dark anime and if you like mysteries and twists, then give it a go.

Thanks a lot to everyone! Smile I'm going through the series right now... Smile

It's sad to hear that there is nothing to match Beck. In fact, I'm surprised why it did that bad in Japan... Sad (Oh, and I actually love Engrish in it. Wink )

I second Fullmetal Alchemist. Since you like Naruto, I'd suggest maybe Flame of Recca? I haven't seen it, but the genre is similar to a certain degree. If you haven't checked out Cowboy Bebop and Hayao Miyazaki's movies, I'd go for them right away. Spirited Away is the only one I've seen from Miyazaki, but it's not sad or anything of the sort, and it's a really wonderful fantasy. Bebop is a Sci-fi action series, and although bounty hunting may seem silly to some, it really is a good show. Just don't watch it too may times...

FULL MOON WO SAGASHITE is the closest thing i can think of to beck... it's about a girl who wnats to be a singer, she has a great voice and all but she has a throat cancer... death gods (shinigami?) help her etc etc and theres a love story in here as well. It's a bit kiddy but this anime is one of my favorites for sure. It has possibly the best anime ending I've ever seen as well. It's pretty long, 52 episodes i think? or 51 or something aroudn there...

FULL METAL ALCHEMIST is awesome, i do not know of a single person who dislikes this.

FLAME OF RECCA is also a great anime... AWESOME fighting....

KENSHIN... dont think i need to say anything about this...

KIMI GA NOZOMU EIEN is a good romance anime, if you ever consider watching other genres.

ELFEN LIED... my favorite anime... it's just a great story overall... lots of unneccessary nudity/blood might throw you off, but the greatness of elfen lied is not from the nudity/blood as you might expect from the first episode. It's a great 13 episode series.

Something old and new...

old... Video Girl Ai, Mermaid Forest, Macross Plus
new... Full Metal Panic, Tokyo Godfathers

Also learn to use the search feature, don't be so lazy. Helps reduce the clutter on the board if everyone does their part. Thanks.

This is an easy one.

If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch Cowboy Bebop. Its a masterpiece in my opinion, and others as well it seems like Smile

I really liked BECK, also - It's deffinatley in my top5 of all time. I like Naruto, too. Maybe we have the same tastes, no?
Well, since you liked BECK and Naruto, Fansub is ok for you. If that's the case, I'd recomend BLEACH. I think it's the closest thing to Naruto-style thats out now. It's got some action, some comedy, and lots of fighting. I'm really liking it... just got to find time to watch it.

I'd also recomend to you some of my other favorites - just in case you haven't seen any of them:
RahXephon - Giant Robots w/Action and Mystery
Neon Genesis Evangelion - The Original Mind-F***
Macross Zero - Beautiful visuals and an epic story

If you find anything like BECK, though, let me know!

Another messed up/action/sci-fi series is Texhnolyze. Scrapped Princess may seem like a standard sword and sorcery anime at first, but it will surprise you later on. I haven't seen much of Now and Then, Here and There, but it's also drama/sci-fi. I've heard it's depressing, so you may want to avoid it for now. Air is also quite sad, but it's still good.
