What are your picks for the worst ever anime shows or movies ever made?
I would like to stress that this thread is not about anime you do not personally like, nor about shows you consider to be over-rated. This is about anime that no one likes at all, regardless of their taste in anime. If you think that someone would argue with you if you posted an anime on this thread, or it has any features that you would comment positively on, it does not belong on here. |

I'm going to start this thread with my review of the anime "Ninja Resurrection".
"Ninja Resurrection" is currently ranked as the tenth-worst anime on ANN's anime ranking list (animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/ratings-anime.php?top50=worst_bayesian). It's not hard to see why it is so despised, after watching this show. In fact, I would go so far as to call this an anti-masterpiece, because there is not a thing in this OVA series that is not done with stunning incompetence. I have wasted eighty minutes of my life watching this that I will never get back. The first problem is that this show pretends to be a sequel to "Ninja Scroll", when in fact the two only share a coincidence that a character happens to be a warrior named Jubei. The two anime have different character models and animation styles, different production companies, and different moral themes and storylines. I can understand why this would be done - Ninja Scroll is quite a popular movie, but nonetheless, it's a nasty trick, particularly given how awful this show is. The fact that this is presented as a sequel when it is not does not automatically make this OVA awful - the storyline and action could have been good, nonetheless. However, this is not the case at all. The storyline of the OVA consists of an evil man (we know he's evil, the OVA does everything short of calling the man Evil Murder McHitler to point this out to us) set on resurrecting Satan to... probably destroy the world. Motives are far too sophisticated for something like this. The characters never arise above cliches and tropes, badly used at that, and since this was cancelled half-way through the series, we get a rather disturbing non-ending, too. The "action" in the first two episodes solely consists of warriors slaughtering Christians, civlians, and the rare inept warrior that completely and utterly fails to kill immortal demonic beings. Most people, myself included, think that action should require two or more parties of similar strength to fight each other in some way. Nothing that remotely resembling this occurs at any moment in this OVA. As for the animation, this show apparently had a fairly large animation budget, but I really don't see it. It ranges between bad but serviceable to cheap and nasty. The animation style is completely different between multiple characters. In fact, half the time, the animators can't even be bothered drawing in the eyes - they just colour the sockets of the skulls black. Is it that hard or expensive to draw some ovals and colour them white? I normally reserve my comments about the voice acting of a show - I generally watch anime in original Japanese audio, and I'm not appreciative enough of the Japanese language to comment on the acting in the original language. This, however, only gives us English VA, and it truly is awful stuff - it ranges between woodenly unconvincing for any scene that would require even a hint of emotion, and unconvincingly wooden, for any scene that would require a passionate "I'm going to kill you!" sort of voice. I would really struggle to recommend this movie to anyone at all, no matter how much I hated them. Only watch this if you have a pressing need to watch the worst of what anime has to offer. Or you're a masochist. You have been warned. |

In other words- List a bunch of anime that the world unanimously hates. FYI, impossible. Secondly, what's in bold lol. Um in a forum you are suppose to argue so oO yeah. Then you proceeded to state your opinions as to why Ninja Resurrection sucks. You do see the hypocrisy in what you did right? Basically you said this: "Ninja Scroll sucks because of x, y, and z. F U I'm right and you are wrong." Starting to sound like youtube now. Anyway, you have to allow arguing for this thread to work. Opinions aren't absolute. Just saying. |

It's done often enough for movies. I see no reason why the collective intelligence of the ANN forums cannot do the same for anime.
I would like to thank you, ShinobiX, for pointing this out. Obviously, I need to clarify what I'm trying to do. The entire second paragraph was an attempt to try and point out what this thread was about. It's not about shows that are over-rated or that a poster personally doesn't like. It's about shows no one likes, and I said that people shouldn't post shows they think others would argue with as a guideline, so we wouldn't get into flamewars about the merits of divisive, popular, or over-rated shows. I gave "Ninja Scroll" as an example because it is ranked as the tenth-worst show on this site. It gets mentioned in multiple "worst-ever anime" lists. This is not just a show I do not like, but one that many people agree with. That is not to say people should not argue with what is on here, obviously. In fact, I would appreciate it. As you say, opinions are not absolute. I hope this clarifies what I'm trying to do. |

I have not heard of one movie that was hated by the entire human population. I hated Berserk. It tried way to hard to be dark and edgy. There, now this conversation might get interesting...

Given the tone and potential of this thread I suspect many of us are waiting for the fireworks to begin, "I hated Berserk." is weak.

um....Naruto. Do you see the issue yet? Go on any anime forum. They bash Naruto and say its the worst. However its still the most popular anime in America. Go fish.
Anyhow. Im gunna dumb it down and I suggest you change your initial post. It is ambiguous. I would delete your respones too as it may cause more confusion. Abstain from using absolutes like no one. Just to prove you wrong, and I'm not being a dick, well I am a dick...honestly I liked Ninja Resurrection. I know why it sucks, and I would give it an F too, but I love gore. Furthermore, when you look at the ratings, it shows that people liked Nina Resurrection. Right there you should've known your premises are flawed or you are not clear. To conclude, dumb down version: 1. Go to a bunch of random anime websites (gotta be sure) 2. Look at the worst column 3. If you notice an anime, post it here 4. Write ONLY why you think the majority hated this anime (Hint hint what you should say). ___________________________________________________ @ArsenicSteel Patience is a virtue. It will be fixed. Give it time. Anyhow, keepin it real. 9 out of 10 this thread sucks even if he or she does revise it. It is after all just bashing horrible anime that I many people have never seen. Well who knows. I'm not sure if this is a good thread for the forum because people can list a whole bunch of animes they can label as worst under specific genre's, etc.
However though I here Musashi is pretty terrible. The opening theme sounds like it was dubbed by trolls, and the animation is just terrible in spots, etc. It is so bad that only 5 out of 26 or 27 episodes have been subbed because no one wants to touch it. From what I saw on the this site the show is a few years old. |

No. TC has a solid point. People just haven't seen the true garbage that anime as a medium has produced. I think we're talking about things that might at their best, entertain the viewer with their shockingly bad technical and story aspects like Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned. Or things that are not even entertaining like Gakuentoshi Varanoir Kingdom of Chaos The Universe.
Personally, I would like to nominate Chrono Trigger OVA as the worst anime ever made. The reason is that it's fairly well known and I've never heard anyone liking it. It's utter nonsense loosely tied onto CT setting and it's only redeeming point is the soundtrack. It's obviously meant for CT fans, but seeing random monsters running around is a direct insult to the expectations of the viewers. It can be watched subbed on Youtube if anyone feels like wasting their time. The works of Idea Factory are even worse. Anyone who is in ther right mind can't really say that anime like Hametsu no Mars and Varanoir have some actual quality in them. |

Garzey's Wing. The only good thing about it is watching it for the lolz because its done so horribly and the story literally makes NO sense. It even has its own article on being the Worst Anime.

Now, the story and art aren't that bad. They're just very generic. What really closes the deal are the characters. They're just so bloody cheesy and melodramatic, that you'd think they're made of melting butter. Jesus holy christ. |

I am deeply offended
Ninja Resurrection was a revelation in Japanese animation. It is a wonderfully crafted tale of how power corrupts and even the best of intentions can lead to evil. Ninja Resurrection was ambitious too, not afraid to step on the toes of Christians to deliver its artistic message. It can be seen as an allegory for the fall of communist regimes from idealistic visions of utopia to tyranny that was more oppressive than the government it replaced, or for the all to timely story of how religious messages of peace can be used to fuel war and massacre. Not only that but Ninja Resurrection gives the viewer insight into the Japanese culture, one that is unique having never adopted a dogmatic religion, and how they view dogmatic faith. ................

if you're looking for the worst anime you may as well look in the Hentai section.
not because they show sex but the productions, stories, artwork and voice acting are in many cases sooooooooooooo poor the sex scenes can't make up for it. |

Go watch "Manos: Hands of Fate" and get back to me. Not the Mystery Science Theater version, either. That would be cheating.
The ranking for Berserk is #57. Out of over three thousand anime entries on the site. You mightn’t like it, and I can understand why, but it's hardly universally reviled.
Naruto is ranked #5 in terms of how many people have seen the show. It is ranked about #1000 in terms of ratings.You could easily argue that this show is over-rated, yes. But if this is the worst anime you've ever seen, you've done pretty well for yourself.
I would like to think that people would only comment about anime they've actually made the effort to watch, and why they personally believe said anime is bad.
This is ranked #1564. Definitely not the worst that anime has to offer. |
