I wanted some ideas on Anime to buy and neglected to mention what i had as to keep people from wasting their time mentioning what I already have.
So i replied to my OWN post doing this and i got locked for "listing". When i read the rules I saw no rule I broke. It mentioned listing and putting why somethign is cool. But when it is MY list and i just was informing people, i feel that it was not deserving of a lock. Now I dont have any way to get Ideas on anime to buy. Thank you Mods. There is actually a rule about list threads, you can read it here.
However I disagree with Nagisa and don't think your thread should have been locked for that reason. As long as the answers people provided weren't simple lists, and provided reasons for their suggestions, it wouldn't be breaking the list thread rule. However your thread is redundant with this thread. While the question was different (best versus favorite), the answers undoubtedly will be the same. Every couple of day's someone posts a thread asking "what's the best anime," we sometimes allow them, but generally we lock the thread and refer them to a few places. The first place of course is the above mentioned thread. The second place is the Encyclopedia's top anime list based on votes from thousands of readers. It's my preferred recommendation. Most of them also have associated reviews that you can find from the anime's encyclopedia page, these reviews give a good idea as to why people like the anime and whether it will appeal to your tastes. The type of "best anime" thread that we would allow would be something that explained why your tastes might be different from the average tastes reflected in the encyclopedia rankings. For example, "I'm an older anime fan, here's a short list of anime that I like, what other anime would you recommend to me?" Please understand, there are over 50,000 registered users here. While obviously not all of them are active posters, a very significant number are. If we weren't draconian about list threads, redundancies and other issues, the forums would be completely unreadable. Hope this helps. Have fun at Otakon! Regards, -t |
