i'd love to read any posts about Samurai Champloo. good? bad? i could care less. i'd love to know who your favorite character is, and who your least favorite character is. my favorite character is Mugen because he's always ready to go. my least favorite character is still unknown to me. if i had to answer i'd have to say the freakin' squirel. it's annoying. i want to kill the damn thing! anyway.

Ah, the series that reeled me back into anime not too long ago...
I actually didn't expect it to be so funny (as I have yet to watch Cowboy Bebop), but it was a pleasent surprise. I liked/disliked all the main protagonists about the same, they each had they're funny quirks. The comedy was great, the drama was well done...just very entertaining, overall.
My main problems were the tacked on badguys and a couple of weak episodes toward the end (22 and 23). It never really seemed like a focused show to begin with, but I felt it lost steam in the middle. Even though the ending made me happy, I think it would have been "better" if Jin and Mugen would have died, but whatever...I'm just nitpicking now.
Yup, good times, good times...

I disagree, if Jin and Mugen would have died it would have been incredibly cliche and way too predictable. I don't know anyone who didn't go in to Samurai Champloo expecting them die and part of what I like is that they had the courage not to kill them off as such a thing is rare these days.

I think it's a really good Anime I rather liked it. It got me really interested in Japanese culture. And my favorite character is Fuu, she's so cute and hot at the same time.
And my lest favorite is that sargent, the one who likes to say "for pete's sake" or some thing like that.
And what do you have against the squirel? The squirel's cute, but I would like to know what's with the scar on it's
stomach.

Seeing your comments here and in this post, I wonder if you have confused anime with manga. Use Lexicon at your left hand side column for some basic knowledge, please.

So I haven't actually seen this, and I did hear it was good. I know that the encloypida (ah how the heck do you spell that?) would answer this for me. But I have a friend, without internet acesss, who loves this show. Anyhow he really wants some more anime that are sort of like this. He also really likes Ninja Scroll Any suggestions.
Mod's sorry if it's not okay to post this here, but I thought it would be better then starting a new thread. Thanks for you paticence.
Oh and please excuse any spelling errors, cus I can't spell. Thank you all kindly, Mistress 9.

Mistress 9, look to the left as you type your reply, it says encyclopedia just to the left of the emoticon. Be careful, someone will think you went to American schools!
I liked this series. I did watch it dubbed. I like Thornton and Lucas VAs. What I really liked about this series, was the little bit of factual history, and the tadbits of modern Japanese culture that came along for the ride. People are people no matter where you go, or when you are. I was surprised when I saw a copy of the map that was used delineating the trio's path in the Portland Art Museum last month.
Episode 22, which has its' own topic posting, I thought would have been great as the Halloween episode.
I felt as if I got a lot more understanding of day to day existense for people living in that time, than about anime I have seen to date.

I thought the series as a whole was really good, there were some really funny episodes and some dramatic ones, my favorites being the episodes with the "sacred grass," the counterfeit coins and the brothel, and when Jin falls in love. But I thought the latter half of the series kinda dragged and was a bit boring. But the 3 episode finale more than made up for that.

Samurai Champloo was awesome. I'd have to say Jin was my favorite character because he's calm, collected, and sensible, plus his fighting style rocks, kind of like Spike's from Cowboy Bebop. One thing I liked about this anime was the way it didn't tell things outright, but let the viewer figure it out for themselves. I'd like to brag that I guessed that the sunflower samurai was Fuu's dad and later I guessed that she wanted revenge for leaving her and her mother. It made it really dramatic that the characters all have pasts they'd like to forget.
I noticed a major theme in Samurai Champloo is that there is no benefit in dwelling on the past, that the only sensible thing a person could do was keep on moving forward and accept what they have in the present. One quote by that assassin lady in the last few episodes has been stuck inside my head ever since I heard it: "These are the cards that I have been dealt."

I thought Samurai Champloo was a great series. It had good action and a pretty good story-line. My favorite character would have to be Jin, because of his cool, calm look. My least favorite would probably have to be that crazy guy int episode 22 who made the people rise from the dead. I think my favorite episode is when they have to go past the checkpoint and they release Mugen to deliver the head, but he gets caught by Tengu. And then the whole field of marijuana burns down and everyone gets high. That was the first episode of Samurai Champloo I ever watched, and it was so hilarious that I had to get the whole series. My friend also saw that episode with me and it got him into the series, so I bought him all the episodes for his birthday. As for the ending, I think it was good. Not killing off Jin and Mugen was a good idea. And I think that they're making a movie to conclude the series. I read on the ANN front page a couple months ago that they had started movie manga for the series.

For one thing it's spelled Encyclopedia. You were close really close. And Ninja Scroll in a pretty good anime even though i've only seen about three episodes. I guess I could suggest Inuyasha or Out Law Star. Now those are pretty good anime.
And there wasn't a lot of spelling errors.

Couldn't agree more actually, I liked the rest of the series but I just didn't really like that episode. It really felt out of place, like it didn't really belong with the rest of the series and where it lacked in the areas that make Champloo as good as it is, it failed to make up for what it lacked in other areas. I don't mind a change of pace and style, but it just deviated too far and didn't provide anything to make it feel like anything other than a bland detour.

Yeah I agree that episode just runed it the whole series, but I still watched it. That one episode was just to cunfuseing are they dead or are they alive what are they?
But all in all minus that episode I think the series was pretty good.

i liked the mix of culture in the anime and my favorite character was Jin. I wished the series could have been longer, i believe they could of had more without losing focus on the plot

I thought it was an amazing anime. First anime i've completely watched. My favourite character was Shinksuke. At first I thought he was just a petty thief but when you found out that he was pick-pocketing to save his mother you felt sorry for him. I got pretty choked up when he died.My least favourite character would have to be that guy with the gun that Mugen used to know. I thought that guy was a real ass. He was a coward and hid behind his gun. He was also an ass because he set up Mugen. The way Jin killed him was so sick. I thought the ending could have been done way better. I think Fuu should have died somehow. It wouldn't make a difference because she completed her quest. Then I think Jin and Mugen should have had one last fight. They should both have died. And it would end very symbolic and emotional by them saying like "Goodbye friend" and stuff like that and then the camera fades out with them lying in a field dieing.
