I figure since I've seen many threads about particular anime(s?) that people are curious about and many threads asking for anime recommendations, I'd make this thread. If anyone ever has questions about how good an anime is, what its plot is, or what other anime(s?) it's like, I figure you can all use this one. I know ANN has an encyclopedia containing information on almost every anime in existance, but sometimes it isn't enough to satisfy someone's curiosity. Sometimes they want to know more about the anime before they try to get their hands on it. That's what I intend this thread to be for.
Anyway, I'll start this off. Here's a list of anime(s?) that I've seen commercials of or have heard of and found interesting, but don't know much about. If any of you have seen any of the anime(s?) I'm about to list, please tell me what you thought of it (and why), what other anime(s?) it's like, and what anything else that you'd like to say (about the plot or whatever). Anyway, here's the list of shows I'm curious about: -Love Hina -Serial Experiments Lain -Texhnolyze -Witch Hunter Robin -Trigun -Haibane Renmei -Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo -Elfen Lied That's all of the shows that I can think of for now. If I think of more, I will post them. Oh, and here's a list of anime(s?) that I've watched, in case it helps you know what to compare those shows to. Oh, and one more thing, feel free to recommend me something that I haven't listed if you think I will like it, based on the list of anime(s?) I've watched. Anyway, here's what I've watched: -Case Closed -Paranoia Agent -Cowboy Bebop (and movie) -Gunslinger Girl -Tenchi Muyo (and movies) -Fullmetal Alechemist -Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (and movies) -Samurai Champloo -Hellsing And the anime movies I've seen: -Appleseed -KakuRenBo: Hide and Seek -Blood: The Last Vampire -Read or Die: The Movie -Princess Mononoke -Akira -Spirited Away -Final Fantasy XII: Advent Children (does that count as anime?) |

this thread is infringing on the rules a little I fear. I don't think you can list, and there's a sticky for anime recommandations... But since you wanna know about SPECIFIC titles, I'll clear your mind about the ones I have seen.
Love Hina: THE ONE harem anime. The classical. It's cliché but a must-see and a very good one at that IMHO. I really liked it. A guy lives together with lots of girls who are all over him but don't go out with him, and there's this one special girl with whom he builds up an interesting relationship. It's for young, single boys but I think if you have a good approach, anyone can like it. Lain: only seen like 5 episodes or so. F***ed up man. But it looked good. A little sci-fi and mindforker. Trigun: An old classic again. Another Must-see IMHO. A comedy/action/drama shounen series that has a very interesting plot and is set in a very interesting world. Haibane Renmei: I own that one. It is VERY GOOD IMHO. GREAT story, characters, artwork and world. It's philosophical and drama. If you're into action and comedy, don't listen to it. If you can appreciate the serious themes without the big, fat entertainment, this is for you. It's in my top anime series. Gankutsuou: This is another one of my top anime series. It has style with its weird art that I just loved. You CANNOT get a better plot than this one. The story is an old re-hashed classic on crack, and it just drags you in. The characters are really multi-dimensional and their relationships have something magical. There's drama, romance and action. It really blew me away and I would STRONGLY suggest it. Texhnolyze and Witch Hunter Robin's trailers really did not attract me, but Elfen Lied seems to be quite popular and is pretty intriguing. |

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice the anime recommendation thread, and it has a sticky, wow! On top of that, I never knew we weren't allowed to list on ANN. Wow. LOL! Well, anyway, I just wanted to say "thanks", epixeltwin, because what you said about the all of the shows helped and now I have more to go on than what I saw on TV commercials and DVD trailers. So yeah, thanks. And if anyone else has something to add on one of the shows, or knows about one of the shows that epixeltwin didn't know much about, please tell me. And also, feel free to ask about anime(s?) yourself if you have a question or are curious about one.

Elfen lied is an absolute masterpiece
However it's not for the weak of heart, many scenes in this show are pretty hard to watch... The animation is a little on the bad side IMO, but the heart-wrenching story more than makes up for that... There is an excessive amount of nudity in the series, but it only adds to the story (mostly)... The show starts out as a gorefest, complete with detached heads, and severed spinal cords... but the story really picks up towards around ep. 5... Overall, I don't remember another show that could shift my views on right and wrong as much as this one did... If you don't have any problems with those things... then prepare to be wowed in every sense of the word... |

Oh, thanks, Zero89. That's good to know. It sounds really good from what you told me, but yeah, I'm not sure how I'll do with all of the gore and nudity because most of the stuff I watch doesn't have as much of that as you say this one does. Oh, and by the way, I thought of some more shows I was curious about. Here they are:
-Gantz -Samurai 7 -Tenjho Tenge -S-Cry-Ed -Inuyasha -Najica Blitz Tactics -E's Otherwise If any of you know anything about the above titles, please tell me. I'm curious about those, so if there's anything you can tell me about them, that'd be great. |

I'll do brief summaries of what I know about these.
-Gantz ~ action, blood, violence, sex, all kinds of disturbing stuff...the plot runs a little thin, and the ending may disappoint. -Samurai 7 ~ I plan on watching this eventually; samurai action + mechas + basis on Akira Kurosawa's film = teh win. -Tenjho Tenge ~ from what I can tell, various girls participate in tournament fights, so it's basically a martial arts & fanservice title. -S-Cry-Ed ~ fairly typical shounen "I gotta be strong," fights with monster-ish things, magical powers etc. -Inuyasha ~ lots of people love it, but my vote is "avoid"; many episodes spent doing the same thing, lots of filler, and one of those never-ending "Do they love each other or not" anime "romances" between Inuyasha and Kagome (who is a typical "average schoolgirl gets thrown into another dimension" character like Hitomi from Escaflowne, Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi, or Youko from Twelve Kingdoms with Inuyasha's sometimes dead, sometimes alive girlfriend from the past, Kikyo, forming the last side of the love triangle. I also understand that there's no solid conclusion even after 167 episodes. -Najica Blitz Tactics ~ Panties, girls, panties, guns, bullets, maids, panties, secret organizations...did I mention the panties? |

E's Otherwise was good up until the ending. I've listed it as my choice for "worst ending ever." Tenjho Tenge, S-Cry-Ed, & Inu Yasha are all good. But there's only the one season (and so far no other no plans to finish) and like Zalis116 - fanservice! Also, Inu Yasha take forever! but it's still enjoyable. The end for it should be comming in the next few months on Cartoon Network, so I'm looking forward to see how it ends. Hope that you find something that you like. |

Witch Hunter Robin is far better than people in this thread seem to be making it out to be. It is far from a 'Vampires and Violence' type of thing. While yes there is violence it's not really THAT important to the story, the outcomes of the violence matter but not the violence itself. It is instead a very well done fantasy/sci-fi mystery. It has elements of a police style as well but it's more of a mystery rather than a police investigtion style (like GiTS). It has excellent, non-stereoty[ical animation, excellent characters and a good grap of suspense and development. It also has the most atractive anime character to date

To add to that here's some info on Gantz if you ain't heard yet: Gantz Very original plot concept but somewhat slow pacing makes certain episodes seem staggeringly slow. (Also only 2 ep per dvd for first 6... I recommend buying used or Thinpak, prolly pretty cheap on ebay now) On the bright side there's lot of gore, some nudity/sex (softcore ecchi nothing hentai), really cool aliens and a great look at the human condition. Don't be fooled by the word gore, this show has alot of great underlying points about people, the way they think and why they act the way they do. Although, for the record, last 5 episodes are filler and do the anime little justice, manga continues and is far superior (Although currently unreleased) |

I second hentai4me (now that's a phrase I never expected to type!). I'm not interested in any "vampire stuff" in general, but I enjoyed Witch Hunter Robin. Its motto should be "It's Better Than You Think."

Wow, guys, this really helped a lot. Thanks, everyone. If anyone has anything to add about any of those shows, especially if it's about Texhnolyze (because it was the least discussed show), then go ahead. But wow, all of you guys really helped, so thanks. Oh, and if anyone knows anything about Gungrave and/or Rurouni Kenshin, please tell me. Wow, I can't believe you guys covered almost everything I was curious about, and it only took like a day. LOL! Wow. Thanks, guys.

Hm, School Rumble sounds interesting. I just looked that one up. Can anyone tell me more about that one? BTW, when I looked it up and I couldn't find any DVDs of the show. All I can find is manga. What's up with that? There's no School Rumble DVDs out to buy?

School Rumble is a hilarious and entertaining story of comedy and romance, with emphasis being on the comedy. The romance is more of a tease than anything else. They touch on the relationships and emotions a lot, but hardly take it beyond some anti-climactic (though very funny) cliffhangers. There are also quite a few parodies where they'll make fun of anime or other famous landmarks of entertainment (such as the Matrix bend). Unfortunately, you're unable to find it on DVD right now because it is only available through fansubs, meaning you'll have to download it (illegaly ) or wait until someone licenses it (which will be soon, hopefully).
I take it by your first post that you're looking for domestic stuff only, so don't try to adhere to "peer pressure" or whatever you might get from seeing that one and only fansub recommendation. And do not ask for downloads if you are interested at this point. We've had countless and unending discussions about legality/morals/ethics of downloading, which you can sample here. But for now, I'd recommend the manga as it's the exact same thing, just without voice actors, animation, color, and music (love the intro. ).
As for your list of curiosity, I'd definitely recommend Gankutsuou. If you've ever read the original Count of Monte Cristo, I am willing to bet you will enjoy this rendition. While it isn't an exact retelling, the plot and drama is still very well conveyed in a brilliant and almost mystifying atmosphere with a simply amazing voice cast (in Japanese anyway). |

Oh, no wonder I couldn't find the DVDs! Thanks, Tony K. School Rumble sounds pretty cool because I like comedy anime(s?), and if it was just a romance thing I don't think I'd like it. Anyway, I guess I'll just wait for them to make the DVDs because I don't really download stuff--well, anime, at least. And yeah, Gankutsuou seems interesting. It just looks so...weird. LOL! I saw the trailer and it looked like nothing I've ever seen before. It's very...vibrant. And no, actually, I've never read the book, but I have seen the movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245844/) and that was pretty good. So IDK, I guess I'll look into it.
