I just finished reading volume 2 (only two volumes have been released in the US at the time of this post) last night, and I must say that this series is beginning to move along rather nicely. It has nice art, likeable characters to an extent, and I am really liking the relationship between Kido and Asakura. No funny business, it is strictly professional for the most part. Their personal relationship does appear to be developing somewhat, but it doesn't appear to headed in the wrong direction, which is good.

If you were worried about the series going nowhere after reading volume 1, I wouldn't worry so much now. The story now seems to be progressing. I will say that volume 2 reveals some things that bring up more questions about Asakura's past, but that's all I'll say. I don't want to shroud an opening post with a bunch of spoiler tags.

There is also quite a bit more action in volume 2, and a lot of it features Asakura, which is a plus. The action actually appears to have purpose as opposed to the first volume, which was mainly to showcase the skills of the main characters. There are also some nice elements of humor that I got a chuckle out of, and all the cute moments in regards to Asakura were enough to satisfy me. Both the humor and cuteness are rather limited, but I don't mind that. I wouldn't want this story to be overwhelmed with humor and cuteness, because there wouldn't be room left to develop the story. I particularly enjoyed the part near the end of volume 2 with the spoiler[huge chocolate Desert Eagle]. Hilarious. It was a nice light-hearted break from all the action, and I didn't feel that it was overdone as the story flowed quite nicely back into all the action that was taking place.

With all that having been said, volume 2 is a nice improvement from volume 1. The pieces are now starting to fall into place, and so I look forward to the next volume. This series has a lot of good things going for it right now. It has the potential to be great.

EDITs: typos, grammatical/spelling errors, etc.

Good to hear, I've been debating on whether or not to pick up this series for a while now, that review of yours is just what I needed to hear.

Sounds interessting. Here in Germany "Rose Hip Zero" isn't released yet. But "Rose Hip Rose" is and I think it's a question of time until "Rose Hip Zero" will be released round here.

I read the first volume when it was released but I've yet to pick up the second (planning on it though). The first volume was entertaining and I really enjoyed the character interactions as well as the direction the story seems to be taking. It had the right amount of mystery and action to keep me intrigued.

Was Rose Hip Rose released by Tokyopop in the US? I remember reading that it was but I've been unable to find a used copy (since it's apparently OOP) or find any other info about it.

I don't believe RHR has been released in the US. But, if RHZ does well, RHR will probably be released her eventually.

I'm actually enjoying this quite a bit. Unlike Fujisawa's GTO and the prequel there's more action, less talk, not to say I don't love GTO. It has a very cinematic presentation to it that you can just breeze through and not worry about dialogue so much.

Rose Hip Zero is the prequel so I'm positive they'll release Rose when Zero is done. However Zero is still being published in Japan I believe so it might not be for a while.

This is what had me confused. Strange huh?

But if it hasn't been published then I would like to see it licensed as well as the sequel.

Yeah, that's one reason I like it so much. I'd a very easy read.

That is strange. I was certain that RHR wasn't published in the US.
