The Yo-kai Watch movie may sell more tickets than Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but we forget that the Yo-kai Watch movie has a huge fraction of ticket sales done on highly discounted children and special promotional tickets. The Force Awakens sales in Japan are based on full-price tickets, and as such explains why the revenue is quite a bit higher.

I think had more cinema screens had been bought out for Yōkai Watch, it would have at least rivaled Star Wars in the case of the box office.

actually, in many cinemas Star Wars costs more than a regular movie - at least in Toho Theaters [2000 yen], which is probably the biggest chain that shows it.
