Was lucky enough to go see this opening night here in Japan on Friday - and I really felt like it was Makoto Shinkai's best film so far in a lot of ways. Really enjoyed the story and characters, and as usual the film itself was beyond beautiful.

Calling it now; Madman's getting it.
If it comes to Australia, I'm seeing it. I see most of the anime films that come through. |

Is there a way to get a list of those 85 countries? I don't think it will be released in mine, but well.

I second this. Seems a little silly to write an article about it getting a release in 85 regions without listing or linking to a list of those regions. |

Well if they don't have the list of the countries they obviously can't post it. |

For anyone from the UK, UK Anime network already posted the locations for screenings here. So check that if you want to see the locations for over here. Also pretty sure it will get screened at Scotland Loves Anime.

The list is quite extensive. My only hesitation against booking a ticket when the London screenings become available is the fact that, in all probability, I'll be in quite a lachrymose state by the end of the film. This being so, I remain uncertain as to whether a public viewing would be the wisest of ideas. |

This takes time. Distributors in these 85 countries must work with the Japanese parent company to purchase the rights, then bring it to their home country, plan a roadshow, work with the theaters, marketing, etc. My guess is we'll see this maybe in the spring of 2017 playing in major metro cities around the world.
I will certainly be purchasing tickets when it comes to NYC. I still remember seeing the Children Who Chase Lost Voices in theaters and as anyone here knows, his films deserve to be seen on the big screen. |

"Regions" doesn't necessarily mean "countries". For example, in the USA, "regions" could refer to local counties.

I was in Japan while this was screening but decided to avoid seeing any anime films in theaters in Japan. 1) because of the cost and 2) because I feel I don't get enough out of it not being able to clearly decipher everything said from my Japanese listening ability. I'm happy waiting for the subtitled bluray.
Btw so this movie basically is a gender bender similar to the idea in Yamada and the Seven Witches and Kokoro Connect. |
