Scarlett Johansson actually did really well as the major. It makes me regret that this production turned out in the way it did. It's one of the better anime LAs although obviously animus who only love Japanimation won't enjoy it. I feel like it would have been a really solid film if it had only a different director and some adjustments to the writing. I hope it can find appeal with the mass audience and we'll see more adaptions given to more seasoned directors. As it is, I'm happy to have seen it as a GITS fan but it's a solid B in terms of standing toe to toe on its own merits.
Totally worth the watch if you're not watching it out of spite.

I'll likely watch it since it's hard to pass up a big budget sci-fi flick, the trick will be separating it from the original manga/movie which I'm a huge fan of.
