How are they handling the first chapter which is apparently very different from the rest of it (I could never make it past it)?

If I'm not mistaken, this particular chapter is, in fact, a one-shot (or chapter 0, if you like), so I doubt it will be animated.

If we were to ever do a faithful representation of the kentauroi as they were in the Greek myths, they would be savages. Female kentaurs appeared in Greco-Roman literature starting in the 1st cent. B.C.
