BEM seems to be getting pretty overlooked. It's not great, I think, but it isn't at Cop Craft levels. It is building a feel for its world that is interesting. Anyway, BEM's episode 9 has an American cultural reference that I just had to do a 'I see what you did there' for. If my memory serves, Cartoon Network did a short commercial break bit with some characters, like Batman and maybe Wonder Woman, using the same reference. Maybe I dreamed that last bit. I don't know.
Anyway, two characters meet in spoiler[ the corner city dinner/cafe from Edward Hopper's painting Nighthawks, the one that has great big windows and two people sitting at a counter at night.] I thought it did help establish a mood, but maybe somebody just thought it was neat. Either way, I liked it. |
