It's been documented in reviews of the more recent film, such as Benjamin Ettinger's, that Gisaburo Sugii's The Life of Budori Gusuko (#14150) is intended as a spiritual sequel to his earlier Kenji Miyazawa adaptation, Night on the Galactic Railroad (#51) and has several intentional parallels.
I think that warrants a connection being made between them, though I'm not sure which would be most appropriate. Budori Gusuko's not a sequel narratively and it's not exactly set in the same universe either – more a different universe in the same multiverse. |
