Is the entire series going to be in 3D? If so, from what I'm seeing so far, the Kobus look and move decent, the human characters....not so much.
But I'm also more interested to see where the story's going to go.

Like the look of the Moscow Kagekidan, now I'm sad they were only mentioned in passing in the game... wonder if any of them have ties to Maria?

Yes. Sanzigen is a primarily 3DCG studio. They've worked on series like BBK/BRNK, the last 2 season of Bang Dream! and a few other shows I can't recall off the top of my head.

Word is the anime's story will be a direct sequel to the game, taking place shortly after the end of the source game's story.
It would assume viewers have played the game, or at least read up on spoilers/watched let's play videos online. The Japanese won't have a problem with this, although for Western viewers it'll depend on when the game gets its Western release (which should be the same time as the anime, earliest in April 2020).
