Uh OK, I don't know what to say other then that some people may not recognize him without his iconic beard.

He shaved it off for the premiere of The Boy and the Heron. In the documentary about it, it seemed he was getting quite depressed and disheveled as it approached, especially after so many of his friends and long-standing Ghibli staff died.
It's nice to see him keeping fresh and tidy. |

There's something so Miyazaki about him shaving his iconic beard because it was too much of a hassle.
Also always nice to see how well him and Anno get along. |
