Episode 1

Welcome to the D-League.

The funniest part is the going through the motions sensei who appears to be clocking time until retirement. Hope they continue to show school life/girls banter and do not overbalance SOL with racing events.

Bonus: Oguri Cap has an exceptionally cute character design, more-so than many of the horse girls from the previous season.

The first two episodes make for a rather strong start. Oguri Cap is a very fun and quirky main character and her working together with a coach who is just as unique is amusing. The slice of life bits are fun and you gotta feel sorry for that poor cook. The races are exciting and even get a bit technical. Add great animation to that and a new cast/different school and it feels fresh.

I think that Berno Light has an exceptionally cute design as well, though for me the cutest one is still Satono Diamond.

Oguri Cap makes for quite the main character. She is an absolute monster during races and a funny airhead when not on the track. As of episode 3 it is a great show with the bully trio actually showing some improvement and March being a fine rival. Given the ending it seems like things will open up from regional to the big leagues. Berno meanwhile seems more like a support type character than a future rival.

My only problem with this so far has been the use of cliffhanger to create drama. When your entire story is based on 40 year old real life horse races it kills all the tension the cliffhanger is supposed to create.

Definitely agree about Oguri Cap. She is my favorite character this season.

I enjoyed the other Uma Musume seasons a lot but as of now Cinderalla Gray feels like a step above those. There are still a lot of episodes to go but the 4th one was great and almost felt like a finale. The race was exciting and outside of it there was lots of charm plus sadly Berno having a tough time. Former bully Norn becoming Oguri's dance instructor and tearing up was a good moment.

Norn coaching her through the dance in real time while Mini was presumably feeding her the lyrics for the song was hilarious.

Episode 5

I would not take the depiction of Berno Light fabricating horseshoes from billet aluminium (alloy unspecified) as being technically correct, as precise heat control is needed during forging since the maximum solubility of the alloying elements in solid solution is close to the melting point (or the solidus in a non-eutectic alloy), nor is the post-forging heat treatment/aging required to accelerate the precipitation of solid solution elements shown (assuming both high strength and hardness are desirable characteristics of horse shoes). Just in case anyone was wondering. Wink

Since what happens to Orguri Cap is obvious without looking up the real horse, we are left with the cliff-hanger of what happens to Kitahara - does Symboli Rudolf* pull strings to get him a national trainers license, or does he go back to training third rate (sorry Berno Light) horse girls to run in third rate regional races?

*Am I the only one that is reminded of Yukino Yukinoshita when seeing her?

I mean, I'm expecting Kitahara to just kind of be there waiting for her when she shows up at Central Tracen. It should just be a matter of him applying for the national license and writing a test, right? I assume it's mostly a matter of him just not wanting to do it before, but for Oguri Cap, he might.

Yeah, at several points during the episode I kept wondering which organs and how much of your soul you need to give up in order to get that license given how grave the situation was made out to be. It is likely that Kitahara does not want to do it due to his dream of winning in the Tokai Derby. Or maybe the exam really is that crazy difficult too?

Oguri eats even more when she is worried it seems.

Eating absurd amounts of food WAS her entire character for the first three seasons...

It was very frustrating having to listen to Kitahara saying over and over, "Why did he tell me to skip that race?" If you don't get it, why don't you just ask him to find out if there was a good reason? For that matter, the old coot could've just explained why not when he first warned him.

And it would've helped if they'd explained why he doesn't try to get licensed and what it would entail. Like do you have to have won a certain number of races before you can even apply? There's a lot of drama here with no foundation for me to decide if I should be invested before it all gets handwaved away anyway.

Well, episode 6 showed some of Kitahara at his worst and best. He has many flaws including being rather stubborn but he is a solid trainer when it counts. Drama wise it seems that said license has a grueling exam and that he will have to give it his all to even have a chance of succeeding. He also has to give up his dream of the Tokai Derby in choosing to do so thus I am not too miffed by the drama (not to mention how long it will take, it might be whole arcs before we see him again).

Episode 6 was a great way to finish of what I have been told is merely the prologue of the story. Everyone is moving forward one way or another, some characters have grown and others such as Berno are coming along for the ride.
