I think it’s nice that the staff asked him if he’d like to reprise his role, instead of just callously recasting him.

I really hope we can get the original anime legally here in the west one day. Discotek, AnimEigo, OceanVeil and REMOW you guys listening? Hell Viz just give us the manga!

I'm glad Okiayu-san got to reprise his role, considering he's been still saying the chant after all these years it's clear how much the role means to him even if now he has to channel his younger energy to portray the character again.
I also like the idea that now he's old and experienced enough to play "teacher" for the younger seiyuu involved in the production.
