Was probably inevitable after they released the first film.

It's a sad situation. The first film was crowdfunded, and then Nteflix sweep in and grab the whole series and go "Netflix original"

1. The trilogy was already announced before Netflix officially announced they got the streaming rights. They did get the original show in 2023 (how I discovered it).
2. The kickstarter raised nearly ¥8 million or $55000 USD past its original ¥3m/$20k goal, neither of which are feasible for a feature film (especially like Mononoke). It was for pre-production and making pitch package to companies as well as testing if there was demand and there was as it exceeded

I'm aware that the money corewfunded was only going towards the first film, and that the sequels were going to be funded by other means. It still doesn't change the fact that Netflix went up to a title that had been made completely independently of them, and trapped it onto their site as a "Netflix Original" for the rest of time. I suppose it is hard to understand if you only got into the series through Netflix, and didn't follow the whole thing from the beginning.
