Am I the only one watching this? (surely not, since it made it into the Daily Streaming Reviews)
I'm not usually big on romances, I mean, I enjoy them ok, but can take or leave them. But the mcs are really a sweet couple of socially-crossed kids, fumbling their way through miscommunications (which is done a little differently than the usual never saying anything variety) to figure out how to get together without making fools of themselves for guessing wrong. Rintaro's hyperactive friend Shōhei is a little irritating, but even he's not so bad. I also like that Rintaro can see (with a little help from his mom, who is just the best!) that he's not quite as bias-free as he thought, and is working to overcome that. There may also be a mixed triangle in the works with Kaoruko's childhood friend Subaru, who has a bad case of all men are creeps, but for some reason I have a feeling she might end up with the redheaded menace Shōhei. Lots of ground to cover before that would ever happen though. But yeah, it's a very pleasant show, and though its characters share some of the same self-esteem issues with the other flower-titled romance this season (April Showers Bring May Flowers), I'm liking it a lot more. |

I plan to check it out when it starts running on Netflix in the fall. The Preview Guide's entry on it seems to have disappeared. I assume the previewers got an advance copy because this does not yet have a legit release in NA.

I also plan to check out next season, in part because my watching schedule right now is a tiny bit busy.

Im really enjoying the show. The episode before last was a little slow, and Im not sure we needed as much Subaru as we have gotten, but we'll see how we go.

Is this another show in "Netflix jail"? Seems that is why I have missed it.
Time to fire up the VPN and set sail on the high seas. Just watched Episode 1, and that is enough that I will continue. Best not to say more, so as to avoid spoilers for those who are waiting for official USA Netflix release. |

Seen the first three episodes. It started out cute, gets better each episode when the characters get more fleshed out.

I just started watching this show - just resubscribed to Netflix for the next few months - and I think it's cute. As of the first two episodes, the leads are so pure and earnest that all of the tension rotates around the environment of the two schools and the MC's shyness and insecurity, which isn't my favorite dynamic as its been overused ever since My Dress Up Darling became a hit despite Gojo's initial high irritation factor, but the shows got enough going for it artistically and vibe wise that it's definitely worth waiting to see if and how things develop. I agree that the spiky red haired guy is a bit annoying, but he's also a bit entertaining, and I like the other two buddies.

I tried the first two episodes and the show seems perfectly fine, but I'm just not into school romance or rom-coms these days unless there is some element that sinks its hook into me. This show doesn't seem to have that for me.

Finally placed what's been pinging my brain. Rintaro is the human form of BEASTARS' Lugoshi. Guess that makes our tiny girl Kaoruko Haru, huh.

Depends on what you think is special. There's no specific hobby they're into. But... they don't do endless misunderstandings. No love triangles. No endless 'teases'. No... these kids, they actually communicate when there's the need to. That's VERY RARE in anime. And Rintaro has parents. Actual parents. And his mom is so awesome that I think she's actually better than mine. |

That all sounds encouraging, for sure. Again, I didn't drop the show because I thought it was not very good, I just didn't care about the leads and I had the strong instinct that watching more wouldn't change that for me. As I say, I'm not super receptive to school romance or rom-coms right now. I'm assuming that's a temporary phase, but who knows? After all, Kimi ni Todoke is one of my favourite anime of all time.

Well, Sawako was a cute girl, especially combined with her friends Chizu and Ayane. And that show did have a hook in the beginning where Sawako was ostrasized for being different and 'scary' while still having a vibrant, naive personality. The spooky contest in the woods was a good way to start the show.
I never take up too many shows if I'm not feeling them, so you shouldn't either if you're not in the romance mood. I always like a good romance though. I like action and suspense but I'm not always digging those shows. And I'm starting to be 'that age' that I've seen certain things a million times before... you know what I mean |
