That's a more generous review than I would have given the show, as I don't think it did anything particularly well. Half-episodes would be fine if it looked better, had actual humor, or was trying to push content boundaries, but it was barely animated, had no real humor or creativity, and was still censored enough to remove any use as titillation. Also, Bell doesn't even work really well as a yandere. She's not murderous, just obsessive. The short runtime gives whatever story there might be no time to go anywhere.
It's the worst kind of a bad show: just boring. It's not enough of an animation trainwreck to make it an ironically fun watch, and it's mostly inoffensive enough content-wise to make it unworthy of a hate-watch. That season's equally awful Takamine at least made me feel something, even if it was 'I hate these characters and hope they fail.' Forgettable and boring is the worst any piece of entertainment can be. |

As someone who has read the manga I want to tell anyone interested in the anime that they are not missing much. Hinata is another wimp of a boy who gets flustered every time he finds himself in anything relating to Sex, and the "Yandere" fails to live up to her reputation because she barely threatens to kill anyone and just comes off as an annoying clingy girlfriend with pointy ears. The rest of the cast are not much better. You have the generic cat girl, the bossy bitch who is a stickler for the rules and the boring big book girl who has a crush on the male lead but we all know she won't win.
If the series had full on software S#% scenes it would have saved the series but the viewers do not even get that. It is just some partial and occasional full on nudity but nothing else. Anytime we get a hint of something sexual it is interrupted usually by the bossy girl. And poor animation quality does not help matters. Manga is ok. It is a bit "better" than the anime but that isn't saying much. You are better off looking for an actual H-anime with dark elves. At least they do not hold back on the sexual content no matter how deprived it is. |

Entirely fair review. The series adequately accomplished what it set out to do, but it wasn't aiming high at all. Not enough here to be memorable unless you're squarely the target audience.

If I recall correctly, the manga (and by extension the anime) are actually a 'clean' version of an explicit H-manga of the exact same setup. Which only begs the question for the anime: why didn't they just make porn? |

Yeah, that's me. Mariabell checks all the right boxes for me. Even so, this anime could have done a lot better. The main problem is that the art and animation is too low-quality too often. But I'd still take another season.
People ask this a lot when it comes to a series like this, and the answer is always the same: not everyone wants porn. There are absolutely improvements I think could be made, but going into hardcore territory would be going in the wrong direction, at least for my own tastes. |

In regards to Bell not really being a yandere, it's important to note that the original Japanese title does not include the word yandere: Chotto Dake Ai ga Omoi Dark Elf ga Isekai kara Oikakete Kita (A Dark Elf with Love That's Only a Little Heavy Chased Me from Another World)
As for the show, it's fine. I've read the manga, so this was about what I'd expect. |

I dunno, I think Bell has plenty of murderous/possessive aura sometimes...
I appreciated that Hinata wasn't like your typical MC in that he explicitly returned Mariabelle's affections and also sometimes returned her sexual advances more than you would expect. Though honestly I was very fond of Hinata's high school classmate and her massive butt. Though it is kind of funny that we got a Reverse-Isekai romance with an elf named Mariabelle back to back. |

Yep! I mentioned it a few years back when I covered the first volume for Manga Preview Guide, but this was a cleaned-up adaptation of an H-manga Nakanosora was publishing. All of the bits where Bell was implicitly "going yandere," if you can call it that, were replaced with Bell riding the guy like she paid for it. As for why they didn't make it as a full-on porn adaptation: there's no money in that. The Hentai industry has been doing very badly as of late. It's not only harder to sell hentai (which devastates your profit margins), but this has the knock-on effect of nobody wanting to invest in decent animation. Hence all the Queen Bee slideshows. It's easier to just sell a show as a soft-core TV anime along the lines of Interspecies Reviewers and nickle-and-dime the fans with exposed nipples on the BluRay releases, not to mention easier to make a buck off of it. It's a shame because the original H-manga take is halfway better by virtue of Hinata actually reciprocating with Bell, which fleshes out the relationship. It's still the set-up for a ton of boning, but at least he's an active participant.
I don't blame the translation team for trying to maximize this property's search-engine optimization (nothing makes it easier than just putting a tag straight in your title)... but yeah, "yandere" really doesn't apply here. Reminds me of waaaay back in the day when folks on GaiaOnline got really excited over rumors that Venus Versus Virus was going to be a yuri anime. Yep, whole lot of nothin' there! |

considering that its studio is a sister site of AnimeFesta which tends to do BOTH a safe for work version and a R18 version for any of the hentai manga/doujin thats given an anime adaptation,, you would think there would be one. the fact that there isnt any type of softcore sex of any kind ala redo of healer AT ALL and its mainly ecchi fanservice ala chained solider and behneko must have been the only reason why HIDIVE gave the yandere elf anime got an eng dub at all! but i can understand nakano sora's reasonings to have its anime adaptation SFW! and that is to not end up in the same situation as with noriou's imazumi series where he is unable to get his imazumi DEEP series an anime adaptation due to the contract he made with bunnywalker studios (which is an hentai subsidary for the lunesoft eroge company) |
