I heard about the passing a few days ago, but I didn't know of his role involvement in anime. Thanks for this report ANN. He'll be missed, RIP. Crying or Very sad

A great actor, in so many Akira Kurasawa films, from Yojimbo, to Sanjuro, High and Low, Kagemusha and Ran. There's probably another dozen Kurasawa movies I'm not even listing.

But perhaps his greatest role was as the lead in Harakiri (also called Seppuku in other regions). It's easily one of the greatest samurai movies of all time and should be in the top 5 for greatest Japanese films of all time. Look it up. But whatever you do, do NOT watch the color remake, it pales in comparison.

Amazing in Human Condition as well.
