Wow, so many older manga getting anime now. I’ve never read this one, but I’m always interested in cooking manga.

I am seriously beyond words to describe how shocked I am that this is actually happening. Iron Wok Jan! was a manga I got into rather early on in my time as an anime/manga fan in the 00s, and I absolute loved the manic, psychotic, & absurd energy every single volume had. This was something I had wanted to see an anime adaptation of for so long, but had long given up any hope of it ever happening.
Seriously, if you think that Food Wars was wild & crazy then you really haven't seen anything yet. Iron Wok Jan! is all sorts of insanity, complete with a lead who gives not a single care about being anything more than an abrasive jerk who wants nothing more than to eviscerate his cooking opposition when it comes to making delicious food (his literal motto if "Cooking is a battle"), but is so utterly charismatic & unpredictable that you can't take your eyes off of him.
Also, getting Ei Aoki to direct is rather genius... because he directed Girls Bravo (alongside other, more respected, shows). Because of that I fully expect Aoki to make sure that the manga's habit of slowly increasing the bust size of every woman over the course of the series to be kept fully intact.

Been meaning to get into the manga but had largely forgotten about it.

This is a surprise adaptation. I'm particularly interested in how they're going to cover the different types of Chinese cuisine covered in the manga. Especially with cultural sensitivity not being a huge concern when the manga was made. I can see that being a potential change or issue with how this goes.

I read through the manga because of this announcement and oh boy. While I can see the fan service being toned down for modern sensibilities or because it's not really ever plot relevant, I care less about that than the cooking or food being censored. That would be an honest deal breaker.
