Same sex marriage and non-binary!?! I'm sold! Now I just need to add all my favorite anime and video game characters. Hopefully we can share designs via QR codes or something simular.

Exactly my thoughts. I’ll be creating a population of every Pretty Cure, including all the characters (some who aren’t from PreCure) who I headcanon to be additional Cures! |

A lot of the extra info surrounding the game seems to imply it's gonna be locked down & offline, beyond simply just sharing images. I'd be interested to know what the extent actually winds up being.
People have been doing weird shite in the Sims games for ages - pregnancy speedruns, "how many Sims can we drown in a pool?", 1 vamp vs. the town... that sort of stuff. Can make any Sim look like any existing human you want, 18+ mods abound. Yet in spite of all of that chaos, I cant think I've ever once seen some sort of controversy pop up about people filming weird stuff of their Sims and game sales hurting or legal issues arising. Animal Crossing allows for a ton of custom content and has some fairly-functional moderation tools if something weird pops up. It's hard to tell if the folks jumping the gun and reporting on Tomodachi Life just kinda suck at their job or Nintendo does in fact plan to cut the legs off of this before it even gets a chance to hit the ground running. I cant fathom something like this, that has similar creational parity to a Sims title or Animal Crossing, releasing in 2026 and costing $60 but missing any way to visit/share creations through in-game private trading with friends. I'm hoping it's mis-reporting. |

I am very happy about the option to have nonbinary and lesbian, gay, bi, and ace Miis! It's nice to see Nintendo kept their promise. My only real problem is that physical pre-orders are not up anywhere, while digital is already available. I get that publishers have been pushing digital, but if there's an option to own a game, physical is what I'd much rather prefer.

Nintendo themselves are saying as much. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/71317/ "Nintendo is committed to creating experiences that are welcoming and enjoyable for everyone. To support this commitment, and in consideration of the unique gameplay in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, we have decided to place restrictions on certain image sharing features. These limits help to make the worlds players create in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream remain fun and safe, and that the game can be enjoyed comfortably by all players. We understand that some players may find these restrictions limiting. However, they reflect Nintendo’s ongoing philosophy of creating experiences that bring smiles to everyone who plays." Given the wording they used I think it's a compromise for the additional features they added. It makes it so people who don't want to see the things like same-sex relationships don't have to and respects everyone's worldview. Also, given the way some people used Animal Crossing during the 2020 election like the Biden-Harris campaign trying to recruit people via in-game island which caused Nintendo to put out a statement asking them not to use the game for politics, I assume they decided to be more restrictive in the future. I doubt the last thing Nintendo wants is people officially sharing things like Charlie Kirk Miis or scenes of Mii Trump and Mii Vance kissing. I mean, re-read some of the stuff you described about the Sims and ask yourself if you think Nintendo wants that being wide-spread or associated with their game/brand. Also I'm fairly sure I've heard of drama in the Sims community before even as an outside observer specifically involving the children characters and romance among other things. I wouldn't say 'there's no controversy' for any community because there's always controversy since people are all different and there's always people willing to dictate how you should or shouldn't be playing your game and trying to gatekeep said 'community' which obviously doesn't work but people still try. |

I'm hoping miis will still be able to form relationships independently and player intervention is optional.
What I liked about Tomodachi Life was the complete chaos. I like my random crack pairing generator. |

Eagle-eyed Japanese viewers noticed a number of changes between the English trailer compared to the Japanese trailer. Seems the game will be quite different between regions.

I'm not surprised. Nintendo wants to avoid any controversy. If the game was used in a weird or damaging way it'd be a PR disaster. They were very on-the-ball and strict with custom stages in Smash Bros and the custom vehicles I've seen in Kirby Air Riders that try to sneak in some political flags or messages on them get taken down pretty quickly after they get reported. Given the meme-y nature of Tomodachi Life it's probably best to lock that game down from the start since people would no doubt use it for ill intent. I'm a bit surprised they're using "male" and "female" though. Granted the English version changed "Other" to "Nonbinary" but they kept Male and Female which is surprising to me given the English localization changed that from Animal Crossing New Horizons's Japanese version. I didn't think that was allowed anymore. Progress, I guess.
