I was a big fan of Kite and (to a much lesser extent) Mezzo Forte, so I'm now even more looking forward to the eventual US theatrical release.

My only complaint is that Umetsu's heroines invariably seem to have the same look; when I first saw the advertising art for this one, I thought it was a remake of Kite.

So, when are we getting this Kite remake in the West?

It's only 35 mins? so more like an OVA episode than a film.

Giving it a negative because it's "too short" for a "film" seems a bit short-sighted when this never seemed to be billed as a movie from the get-go? Did the reviewer overlook the fact that there are more entries to follow and that this was just the first?

It will be multiple parts, I think I read somewhere it's going to be 3, and this is billed as part 1. I expect a "complete movie" cut whenever this is done

I mean, it's just a tally.

I do not remember Kite, I couldn't finish Mezzo Forte, and I hated Kite: Liberator...and yet, I somehow really want to watch this.

Except for the fact that I never said it was "too short for a film". I put that it was "only 35 minutes long". It was only notable negative I could think of, actually. It ended just as it was getting started and I wanted more.

Wizard Baristas was god awful, really killed the hype surrounding the creator for me. I am still really confused there was excitement for this project.

Umetsu is a known perfectionist and one of the best directors the industry has ever seen just in terms of pure craftsmanship. Which doesn't get to shine through in weekly television compared to OVAs, movies, and more recently OPs (I say as his most prolific example is a decade and a half old now) where he is given more time to do what he's best at

Aniplex USA announced they had it at Anime Expo last weekend (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esQM3UWBgD0). Didn't give a release date though (and I wonder how they'll justify screening a 35 minute film on U.S. screens)

Also my first thought when I saw the picture of her. Does he have a fetish for the design? At least change the hair style. Still, I would like to watch this to see the animation because Kite and Mezzo had incredible animation and even though it's only 35 minutes, 35 minutes of banging animation is enough for me.

I always found it bizarre that he's always struggled so much to secure funding. (and then when he does get the money to make a whole series, he makes Wizard Barristers Crying or Very sad )

Sounds like it's pure Umetsu, if nothing else.
