Given the description, the location doesn't have anything to do with it beyond the victim happened to work there.

Very sad... this is a global issue that needs global cooperation for real solutions.
And it needs change in all levels... from education, to information sources, government, justice, police training, culture and several others.
From what I read, there aren't enough statistics to show whether feminicide and violence against women is trending upwards or not over time, but it's just one of those things that we have to keep working on if cases like this one still happens.
Should be noted though I guess, that Japan has low rates of it along with it's low crime rate in general. It still happens, but the statistics are far lower than rates in western nations.
May the families have strength to endure such a tragedy though...

when you read the article and see that Japan has stalking laws and that the police actually took steps to protect the victim but it seems that this guy took those actions as a sign to escalate
