I’ve never even heard of Sakon or Drucker, wow.
I read the Baby & Me manga from Viz over a decade ago, I’d watch the anime. |

Wonder why they didn’t go with the title “Baby & Me” like Viz did. Is it a trademark thing? “Baby & I” sounds strangely formal by comparison.

Amusingly enough, Justin Sevakis actually wrote about both Moshidora & Baby and I previously here on ANN, for Pile of Shame in 2013, for Stuff You'll Never See Here in 1998, & Buried Treasure in 2008, respectively.
In them, Justin stated that "No company would ever spend money on this" for Moshidora, while for Baby and I he called it an example of an anime "no American release house will touch with a ten-foot pole (barring some act of God)"... and, ironically enough, said that AnimEigo would be one of the "best hopes for a commercial release". Meanwhile, I'm psyched for Sakon myself, so I'll be grabbing that, Moshidora, & upgrading my old House of Five Leaves DVD set for the BD. Still not sure about AD Police Files & Baby and I. |

It could be licensor mandate. That's why Discotek's release of Rose of Versailles has the Lady Oscar title added to it. |

Baby & I is so exciting! I know I've heard about how retro shojo can be a hard sell (most retro shojo fans I know are more manga-oriented), so I appreciate AnimEigo taking the risk!

During the panel at Anime Expo, AnimEigo said Baby & I is the tentative title for its release, and added that it is looking into using the Baby and Me title. |

Moshidora in particular is something that I personally never expected to ever get an English-language release. Hooray for niche publishers! |

Glad I held off on getting the old DVD for AD Police Files. House of Five Leaves got a lot of good press back in the day too.

Aaaand I'm probably getting all of these. Moshidora would be really fun to revisit since its inital airing. I've been getting nearly every AnimEigo release since what I like to call their renaissance.

I remember reading about Sakon in Animerica back when it first aired. I thought it sounded interesting but then it went unlicensed, even during that 2003-2007 licensing boom. I feel obligated to try it after all these years.
Not interested in Baby & I/Me, but I'm hoping we someday get Aishteruze Baby in the U.S. |

Not just strangely formal, "Baby & I" is grammatically incorrect, unless they're imagining it to be the beginning of a sentence (like "Baby and I went to the park..."). As a standalone phrase, "Baby & Me" is correct english grammar. The "and I" usage is an over-correction trap many English speakers fall into after years of being told that "and me" was incorrect as a (false) blanket rule. I have really strong feelings about this!! Haha. |

Despite the hang-ups I had with it back when it was first premiering (boring execution, difficult-to-like supporting characters, spoiler[Yuki's eleventh-hour death being forced, dragged-out melodramatic bullsh*t], the avant-title narration being cringe in terms of how it sounds), I might actually put down money on this Moshidora release. Maybe a rewatch spaced out over more than just the two weeks will aid in reappraisal.

As a standalone title, either is correct because there’s nothing inherent to the phrase that indicates it’s necessarily a compound object rather than a compound subject. It’s simply a title and not a complete clause, so either is fine from a grammar perspective. But you’re right about the fact that “Baby & I” sounds more formal because so many native speakers are taught “and I” and overcorrect to that. “Baby & Me” is closer to what a child would say, and it evokes “Mommy & Me,” which is a familiar stock phrase/title. I’m sure there’s an argument to be made that one title is more accurate when you look at the pronoun in the Japanese title, the context, etc., but I can’t pretend I know enough Japanese to judge. Either way, it sounds like AnimEigo is exploring switching it, so this probably is a case where “Baby & I” was set by the licensor without understanding all the nuance of how it sounds in English. |
